Positioned within the commercial team, you’ll be central to a dynamic and fast-moving group as a member of our New Categories squad. Here, you will support launching new technologies and products with a high demand as part of our high-profile Seasonal range. We require an individual who can work at a level of autonomy and with good business acumen due to the dynamic and fast-paced range refresh cycle which rotates three times a year.
As an Assistant Buyer, you will support the Buyer to bring the most compelling range and great value products to our customers, using your entrepreneurial skills to seek out new and exciting additions to our assortment. You’ll have the opportunity to help manage a diverse mix of products which includes BBQs, dartboards, and even Christmas decorations.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Helping to manage supplier relationships in line with the category strategy
2. Sourcing on-trend and exciting products to bring into the Seasonal range
3. Keeping tabs on the competition so we can set competitive prices
4. Analysing trading performance and recommending actions to drive our business
5. Support the Buyer in negotiating product ranges – including cost pricing, promotional plans, additional terms, exclusivity, distribution & stock availability
6. Managing the full product lifecycle through the three Seasonal ranges
7. Pricing the product range in line with agreed category CPI targets
Required Skills & Experience:
8. 1-2 years' experience of being part of a buying function (as an Assistant Buyer or Admin Assistant) and a great working knowledge of technical products
9. Excellent communication and relationship building skills
10. Organised, analytical and numerate with good judgment
11. Strong commercial awareness and a sense of customer needs
12. Proficiency in Excel
