We are seeking a Group (Senior) Risk Manager to support the delivery of our enterprise risk strategy at Howden. The successful candidate will help embed our enterprise risk management framework across the global group and will be a key member of the Group Risk team within an established and expanding function.
This highly visible role involves interaction with senior stakeholders at the Group level and across all international business divisions. The candidate must be an independent, proactive self-starter capable of leading initiatives and collaborating effectively with senior management.
Responsibilities include supporting the Group Risk Director, divisional Chief Risk Officers, and local risk and compliance teams to implement the Group Risk Management Framework and methodologies for risk identification, assessment, mitigation, and escalation.
This full-time, permanent position is based in our Central London office.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Assist in socialising, embedding, and developing the risk management framework across the Group, including data integration from internal risk software.
2. Align risk reporting with the Group’s strategic objectives and anticipate potential risks.
3. Facilitate risk assessments, analyze mitigation strategies, identify emerging risks, and review against risk appetite statements, highlighting gaps and solutions.
4. Build and maintain relationships with stakeholders, providing risk guidance and challenge.
5. Contribute to the rollout of the Risk Management Information System across the Group.
6. Handle urgent issues and perform ad hoc risk assessments as needed.
7. Apply practical risk management experience within the insurance industry.
8. Develop strong interpersonal relationships with risk teams and stakeholders, maintaining professionalism.
9. Seek opportunities to improve the Group Risk team’s effectiveness through collaboration with colleagues and external contacts.
10. Maintain awareness of organizational structures and activities, including cross-border and intercompany dependencies.
Candidate Requirements:
1. Experience in a second-line risk management role within a UK financial services or insurance firm.
2. Practical knowledge of implementing risk frameworks in a global context.
3. Proven ability to identify gaps and lead remediation efforts.
4. Experience with Risk Management Information System projects, including leadership roles.
5. Leadership experience in oversight activities such as risk reports and incident assessments.
6. Breadth of experience across enterprise risk management domains.
7. Strong analytical, communication, and presentation skills.
8. Proficiency in MS Office, especially Excel (macros, V-Lookups, PivotTables).
9. People and budget management experience is advantageous.
10. Ability to communicate complex matters to senior stakeholders effectively.
