An exciting opportunity to work within the Phlebotomy Department.
The phlebotomy team provides essential services both within the Trust and the wider healthcare community. This role includes working at The Countess of Chester Hospital on inpatient wards, outpatient services, and clinic settings.
Services are also provided at the 1829 Building on the hospital site for GP bloods, as well as at offsite locations including a GP Phlebotomy Hub in Ellesmere Port and ward/outpatient services there. The role involves working across all these locations.
The Phlebotomy team covers weekend duties on a rotational basis; therefore, flexibility is essential for the successful candidate.
You will obtain venous or capillary blood samples from patients following Trust guidelines. You may be required to work on specialised units after suitable training and experience.
Responsibilities include conducting mandatory training according to Trust policy, maintaining competence through regular review of procedures, and proposing improvements where appropriate.
You will perform procedures with awareness and regard for individual patient needs, approaching patients courteously and providing appropriate explanations of the procedures.
Verbal consent should be obtained where possible.
The Trust provides services to West Cheshire and Welsh patients covered by Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board, collaborating within the Cheshire and Merseyside Health and Care Partnership. Services are provided from three locations:
* The Countess of Chester Hospital: 438 general and acute beds
* Ellesmere Port Hospital: 56 beds for rehabilitation, intermediate, and outpatient services
* Tarporley War Memorial Hospital: community services serving the local rural population
The Trust employs over 5,916 staff, including temporary bank staff, providing emergency and elective services, primary care access, and obstetric services to approximately 411,000 residents in Chester, West Cheshire, Ellesmere Port, Neston, and parts of Flintshire.
In 2022/2023, there were over 503,342 patient attendances, an increase from 494,387 the previous year.
