PET Radiographer/ Imaging Technologist (maternity cover)

We are looking for an enthusiastic PETRadiographer/ Imaging Technologist to join our PET Imaging Centre and GuysCancer Centre for a 12 month contract (maternity leave cover).


Main duties of the job

The purpose of the role is to be a member of a multi-disciplinary team in providing an efficient, effective and timely PET-CTimaging service to the patients, clinicians and researchers using the Centre, and to contribute to the development of the service, participating in all aspects of clinical and research scanning procedures. You will provide a high level of clinical care to all patients and research subjects, working within all relevant regulatory and clinical governance guidelines as required by KCL and Guys & St Thomas NHS Foundation Trust at both sites.

The successful post holder will demonstrate a sound awareness of good patient care and confidentiality. Excellent Imaging skills in clinical and/or research fields are essential and should be paired with up-to-date knowledge of imaging techniques, and knowledge of the principles of PET scanning and the relationship of PET to other imaging modalities. Previous postgrad experience is desirable, but not essential and post holders must have hands on experience in Nuclear Medicine, CT or MRI.

The post holder must have a BSc / Diploma in Radiography OR an equivalent recognised Nuclear Medicine Qualification. The successful candidate will be able to work well in a team, calmly under pressure, be empathetic and able to use their own initiative to problem solve. The role will work across both sites as needed to train staff and visitors as well as to provide cover.


About us

The PET Centre is part of Guys & St Thomas NHS Foundation Trust and Kings College London within the School of Biomedical Engineering & Imaging Sciences. As such, we run an extensive clinical PET service, including a wide range of specialist indications, and an extensive clinical research programme. Facilities include a cyclotron, radiochemistry labs and a new scanning facilities with 3 PET-CT scanners and a PET-MR.

Job responsibilities

Clinical:

* To perform excellent quality imaging studies in accordance with departmental protocols in an efficient, safe and timely manner
* To work as a member of a professional team, liaising closely with and supporting colleagues in the delivery of a high quality scanning service
* To provide a high level of patient care before, during and after imaging procedures
* To be responsible for handling radioactive tracers in accordance with the local rules.
* After initial training, to be able to establish venous access and be responsible for drawing, measuring and injecting radiotracers into patients under the guidance of the ARSAC license holder
* To act as an operator under the IRMER regulations
* To ensure that relevant documentation e.g. referral forms, ARSAC, study consents are completed correctly prior to administering radioactivity
* To interview each patient and accurately record all relevant information on the scanning data sheet
* To provide a detailed explanation of the scanning procedure to each patient and their carers prior to commencing the procedure
* To be prepared to answer queries relating to the procedure or the patient\'s condition, requesting additional help from senior or clinical colleagues as appropriate
* To be sensitive and supportive of each patient\'s needs whilst ensuring that optimum quality scanning is achieved

Operational

* Perform routine radioactive contamination monitoring as per the departmental local rules
* To util ise all departmental equipment safely and effectively
* To perform routine quality control checks on all relevant equipment
* Report any problems, malfunctions or failures of equipment to the Super Intendent Radiographer and/or his or her deputy, labeling and removing from circulation any unsafe equipment
* To utilise the imaging networks for both KCL & Guy\'s & St Thomas\' Hospitals in accordance with departmental protocols
* To liaise closely with the administrative staff to ensure efficient and timely patient throughput is achieved
* To assist the Super Intendent Radiographer and/or his or her deputy in organising the workload in line with clinical priorities
* To participate in staff meetings as required
* To participate in a flexible rota providing cover between 7:30am and 7pm depending on workload requirement

The above list of responsibilities may not be exhaustive, and the post holder will be required to undertake such tasks and responsibilities as may reasonably be expected within the scope and grading of the post.


Person Specification


Qualifications

* BSc / Diploma in Radiography or recognised Nuclear Medicine qualification
* Registration with IPEM or HCPC


Knowledge and skills

* Up to date knowledge of imaging techniques including knowledge of the principles of PET scanning and the relationship of PET to other imaging modalities
* An understanding of cross-sectional anatomy
* Excellent computing skills
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills and able to work well with a variety of people and in a team


Experience

* Excellent imaging and patient care skills
* Hands on experience in Nuclear Medicine or PET-CT
* Experience in following protocols and complying with local rules
* Handling of unsealed radiation sources
* Handling of blood products

£39,076 to £43,909 a yearincluding London Weighting allowance (KCL Grade 5)
