Biomedical 3D Design Engineer

Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust is looking for an experienced biomedical 3D design engineer to join our 3D surgical planning and printing service. The role will focus on designing and developing surgical devices, guides and implants for a range of highly complex cranio‑maxillofacial procedures. The main site of work will be the OMFS Laboratory/3D suite at North Manchester General Hospital.
Responsibilities
* Design and manufacture patient‑specific treatment plans, implants and guides in collaboration with surgical consultants and other healthcare professionals.
* Manage own 3D planning workload and prioritise work according to urgency and clinical need.
* Plan surgical procedures using specialist 3D software for highly complex reconstructive surgery, CMF implant planning (zygomatic, restorative, facial prosthetic), PSI for oncology, trauma and congenital specialties and complex anatomical diagnostic modelling.
* Maintain and calibrate 3D printers and software licences, and contribute to maintenance of specialist 3D printing equipment.
* Schedule and conduct MS Teams planning sessions, attend theatre sessions and provide specialist support to 3D surgical planning cases.
* Contribute to implementation of the Medical Device Regulation and other quality management system requirements to ensure laboratory meets required standards.
* Collaborate with surgeons, clinicians and other NHS trusts to support cross‑site case loads and help develop the 3D service/hub within MFT.

Qualifications
* Degree in Biomedical Engineering or equivalent (Beng Hons)
* Master’s in Biomedical Engineering or equivalent recognised post‑graduate qualification
Knowledge and skills
* Specialist experience in 3D surgical planning and use of 3D VPS
* IT, communication, presentation, PowerPoint and public‑speaking skills
* Knowledge of MDR and QMS systems
* Experience of Computer Aided Design, Rapid Prototyping and 3D printing within a Maxillofacial setting
* Ability and willingness to travel between hospital sites
* Knowledge and involvement with the Scientific Training Programme (STP)
* Evidence of recent attendance at national conferences or courses within the profession

£49,387 to £56,515 per annum (pro rata).
