Aerospace Technology Institute - Head of Advanced Systems & Propulsion

Oryx Executive Search are delighted to be supporting the Aerospace Technology Institute (ATI) in the search for a Head of Advanced Systems & Propulsion.
The ATI creates the technology strategy for the UK aerospace sector and funds transformative research and technology programmes, securing the UK’s global leadership in aerospace technology development. It is a truly game-changing initiative, whose objective is to reduce aviation’s environmental impact through providing thought leadership on all aspects on the future of flight and through funding research projects that secure jobs, maintain skills and deliver economic benefits across the UK.
The Role:
The Head of Advanced Systems & Propulsion is a critical part of the Technology Team which is core to the ATIs activities. It is a key, strategic role which will have a pronounced impact on progressing the ATI’s objectives. The role will also have a significant impact on future ATI technology strategy for the Systems & Propulsion domain.
As Head of Technology for Advanced Systems and Propulsion you will:
* the drivers, challenges and opportunities associated with aerospace technology development.
* leadership, inspiration, and act as a key commentator around advanced systems & propulsion technology that generates and maintains excitement across the UK’s ecosystem, with determination to operate as a genuine catalyst for change.
* independent technology expertise that allows credible engagement with industry and academia, and an ability to assess, challenge and enhance funding requests consistent with the Technology Strategy.
* new strategic technology priorities for the UK aerospace sector particularly in the areas of systems and propulsion.
* updates of the UK’s Aerospace Technology Strategy and associated roadmap development.
* different forms and approaches to innovation and the development of ambitious projects that secure the UK’s position in the sector.
* and recommend strategic R&D infrastructure.
The Person:
The role demands a high level of technical credibility. Candidates may have operated at Chief Engineer level, or similar, and will have played a key role in the delivery or leadership of major programmes in the systems and/or propulsion domain. It will be important that candidates can provide demonstrable evidence of leading the technical delivery of products into a new aircraft programme.
You will be effective in challenging convention with a strong capacity for encouraging collaboration in the pursuit of delivering effective solutions. Candidates will be comfortable with ambiguity, motivated by doing things differently and enthusistic about being actively involved in delivery.
