We are recruiting a Shift Electrical Engineer to join an on-site engineering team at a global R&D headquarters in Cambridge, working a continental 12‑hour shift rota covering both days and nights. You’ll be part of a strong shift team of around 20 engineers supported by additional day engineers, delivering critical services on a flagship, technically demanding facility.
Reporting into the Shift Team Leader, you’ll work closely with on-site management within a structure that genuinely values its engineering team. The company will provide comprehensive training and development, taking engineers with limited or no building services FM experience and supporting them to gain new skills, including high-voltage (HV) and UPS systems, so you can grow and progress your career.
As a Shift Electrical Engineer, you will:
* Deliver Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance across critical electrical and mechanical systems
* Maintain environmental conditions for sensitive spaces
* Fault-find across UPS systems, generators, HV systems, PDUs, HVAC, CRAC units and associated plant
* Monitor and manage building performance via BMS systems
* Operate Permit to Work systems in line with H&S procedures
* Ensure compliance with KPIs, SLAs, and statutory regulations
* Maintain accurate records via CAFM systems (SAP/Concept or similar)
* Support subcontractor control and safe system of work processes
* Maintain detailed shift logs and ensure plant rooms are secure and well maintained
* This is a hands-on, technically focused Electrical Engineer role within a highly regulated and performance-driven environment.
The successful Electrical Engineer will require:
* Apprentice-trained Electrical Engineer (or Mechanical/Electrical Building Services equivalent)
* Experience with UPS, generators, HV, PDUs, HVAC and BMS systems
