This leading firm of Accountants and Business Advisers operate across the UK, Ireland and the Nordics. They are ranked as a top ten accountancy firm in the UK and are the number one largest SME practice. They currently have a need for an experienced Payroller to join the Payroll team, processing client payrolls.
Your new role
To ensure the accurate and timely delivery of client payrolls, undertake general administrative duties and work collaboratively within the payroll hub. You will also be responsible for effectively communicating with clients, offices, HMRC and third-party providers. To make sure we are always giving our clients the best payroll service, you will need to keep up to date with all payroll legislation and industry changes through independent research.
Key accountabilities
1. Ensure the accurate and timely delivery of client payrolls to agreed deadlines.
2. Input data for payrolls when necessary, run audit and validation checks, and interface data to General Ledger and Pensions systems.
3. Monitor SSP, SMP and other statutory payments and calculations.
4. Process accurate and timely year-end reporting when necessary.
5. Manage payroll changes to the time and attendance systems (BMS).
6. Administer the end-to-end payroll process and auto-enrolment compliance for a portfolio of clients.
7. Respond to payroll-related enquiries from clients, acting as a trusted advisor.
8. Provide first-line support for pay queries.
9. Peer check payrolls.
10. Undertake general administrative duties and work collaboratively within the payroll hub.
11. Develop relationships with clients, ensuring effective communication with wider offices, HMRC and other third-party providers.
12. Maintain effective communication within the team and wider payroll teams.
13. Keep up to date with payroll legislation and industry changes through independent research.
What you'll need to succeed
1. Previous payroll administration experience, minimum of one year in a busy, service-driven environment (preferably within a bureau).
2. End-to-end payroll processing experience, including pensions, benefits, and statutory payments.
3. High level of accuracy and attention to detail in manual and system-based work.
4. Ability to coordinate, prioritize, and multitask with little supervision.
5. Strong customer-focused approach, capable of handling queries via telephone and email.
6. Ability to adapt to a highly changeable environment.
7. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
8. Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
9. Knowledge of payroll legislation, processing, and auto-enrolment regulations.
10. Ability to manually calculate payrolls.
