What are the key objectives and expectations from this role?
The Senior Technologist Applied Analytics role is chiefly responsible for the execution of assigned tasks using laboratory equipment and expertise across a range of projects and activities within the New Categories product development to support the delivery of the commercial vision of a product in the R&D pipeline.
What is the direct impact of this role on the team or organization?
This role will utilize knowledge of New Categories lab methodologies for Vapour, THP and Modern Oral products and broad scientific principles to assist product development in prototype screening. The role provides analytical data and technical interpretation to guide decision-making in product and technology development.

WHAT YOU WILL BE ACCOUNTABLE FOR
5. To lead assigned projects and activities within the Analytical team based on an agreed plan across a portfolio of projects and activities.
6. Work closely with the New Categories Analytical Manager to implement and plan the testing of products in the New Categories R&D pipeline within the required time frames.
7. Hold lab expertise in operating the required machinery/testing capabilities such as smoking engines, GC-FID, HPLC, LC MS-MS, Karl Fischer etc.
8. To have awareness of best practices and compliance using technical knowledge and broad scientific principles to ensure effective delivery of appropriate tasks.
9. To understand testing activities, methodologies, and equipment capabilities to carry out assigned duties to fulfil project needs.
10. To minimise risk through escalating issues with workstream delivery to the senior scientist roles for the purpose of capturing any difficulties and filling knowledge gaps.
11. To ensure the confidentiality of all technology and compositions which ensure the uniqueness of BAT output.
12. To promote and integrate ways of working within the Analytical team.
ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE, SKILLS, AND KNOWLEDGE
Experience Required
13. Ability to deliver against a portfolio of tasks within defined timescales.
14. Broad understanding of product testing approaches and data interpretation.
15. Broad range of techniques from within specialist field (GC-FID, HPLC, HPLC/MS/MS, Karl Fischer, smoking engines).
16. Good analytical skills and data-affinity.
17. Proficiency on MS Excel and PowerPoint.
18. Ability to work unsupervised and under pressure whilst maintaining flexibility.

Education / Qualifications / Certifications Required
22. Degree or equivalent in in Chemistry or a relevant physical science.
