Head of MSAT (Manufacturing Science & Technology)
Walker Cole are exclusively supporting a leading advanced therapies CDMO as they look to appoint a Head of MSAT to lead and scale their Manufacturing Science & Technology function.
This is a senior leadership role, responsible for driving the technical transfer and lifecycle management of cell therapy products into GMP manufacturing, supporting both clinical and commercial programmes.
The role:
* Provide strategic and technical leadership for the MSAT function across cell therapy manufacturing
* Lead technology transfer activities from development into GMP manufacturing, ensuring robust, scalable processes
* Own process lifecycle management, including process validation (PPQ), continued process verification (CPV), and process improvements
* Act as SME for investigations (deviations, OOS/OOT) and technical troubleshooting
* Define and deliver MSAT strategy aligned with operational and commercial objectives
* Build, develop and lead a high-performing MSAT team, supporting continued growth
* Establish KPIs to monitor process performance, transfer success, and continuous improvement
* Act as a senior technical lead in client interactions, supporting onboarding, due diligence, and ongoing programme delivery
* Support regulatory inspections and client audits as the MSAT lead
* Collaborate cross-functionally with Process Development, Manufacturing, QC, QA and Supply Chain to ensure reliable GMP delivery
What they’re looking for:
* Proven leadership experience within MSAT, Technical Operations, or a similar function in a GMP environment
* Strong background within ATMPs, ideally cell and gene therapy manufacturing
* Deep understanding of process transfer, process validation (PPQ/CPV), and GMP manufacturing operations
* Experience working within a CDMO environment and supporting client programmes
* Strong technical knowledge across cell therapy unit operations (e.g. cell processing, expansion, engineering, formulation, cryopreservation)
* Track record of delivering successful tech transfers into clinical and/or commercial manufacturing
* Strong stakeholder management and client-facing experience
* Comfortable operating within a fast-paced, scaling organisation
