Overview
Join a new service at Campsfield House IRC focused on providing a high-quality mental health service to residents. The role involves working with the senior Mental Health Nurse, Head of Healthcare and Senior Clinical Lead to provide dedicated mental health care within a multidisciplinary team, with leadership responsibilities for junior staff where appropriate. The healthcare team aims to deliver compassionate, evidence-based, person-centred, non-judgemental care and maintain records in line with governance policies.
Responsibilities
* Support mental health reception screening.
* Following initial reception screen, conduct in-depth assessments as needed and develop treatment/interventions/strategies using appropriate evidence-based screening tools.
* Support the junior mental health nurse with guidance, supervision and development.
* Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team (MDT) to develop treatment/intervention options and provide supportive care plans.
* Act as the named nurse for mental health issues and work with the MDT to deliver holistic, safe, clinically effective care.
* Maintain high-quality mental health records, ensuring they are accurately developed, maintained and communicated to the MDT.
* Administer medications in accordance with DrPA policies and guidance.
* Provide advice to MDT and operational teams on the management of complex mental health issues.
* Undertake risk assessments and take appropriate action for serious mental health concerns (e.g., suicide, self-harm, injury to others).
* Demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication, ensuring respectful and empathic care.
* Develop a mental health promotion program visible from initial reception at the IRC through release and deportation to build resilience and wellbeing for individuals and staff.
* Note: this role will include night shifts as part of the rota.
Qualifications
* Essential
* Registered Mental Nurse (RMN) on the NMC register with no restrictions to practice.
* Evidence of Continued Professional Development.
* Experience in supervising and mentoring junior staff.
* Ability to participate in multi-professional teamwork.
* Ability to work without direct supervision.
* Excellent communication skills.
* Believe and work within DrPA values.
* Strong written documentation and communication skills.
* Organise own workload and manage time effectively in a fast-paced environment.
* Desirable
* Experience and knowledge of working in a secure environment.
* Mentorship qualification.
* Knowledge of substance misuse.
* Experience of mental health assessment and triage.
