We are seeking an Sr. Mechanical Engineer to join our federal team at our York, PA location. The mission of Johnson Controls Navy Systems (JCNS) is to supply Chilled Water Air Conditioning (A/C) Plants, Refrigeration Systems, and associated equipment to the U.S. Navy and U.S. Coast Guard. Johnson Controls Navy Systems' robust, high-reliability products are designed, manufactured, and tested in York, PA to meet military and other stringent customer specifications.

This position is part of the JCNS engineering team. The engineer will work under the guidance of an engineering manager to support:

1. Production of existing Navy products (including variable speed, oil-free, magnetic bearing Navy products and oil-lubricated, fixed-speed Navy products)
2. Design and development of new water-cooled chillers and refrigeration units for the U.S. Navy and U.S. Coast Guard
3. Performing various engineering activities to resolve technical issues and qualify components

This group applies refrigerant compressor technology along with principles of mechanical design, manufacturing methods, thermodynamics/heat transfer, electromechanical systems, and controls to the design, manufacture, and testing of centrifugal compressors/chillers and their associated components and systems.

As a Sr. Mechanical Engineer, you will:

1. Support the resolution of production issues related to manufacturing and testing of Navy products.
2. Analyze and troubleshoot mechanical sub-components and sub-systems based on operating observations and test data.
3. Generate technical documentation and customer submittals for internal use and for customers.
4. Assist in resolving customer issues in the field related to JCNS products and support the Parts & Service Group.
5. Design and select refrigerant compressors, components, and systems, performing engineering calculations to meet performance, safety, and reliability standards.
6. Collaborate with design and drafting teams to generate chiller layouts and system configurations.
7. Lead or participate in qualification and risk mitigation testing, including military shock, vibration, electromagnetic interference, refrigerant performance, acoustics, and pressure vessel testing.
8. Develop project schedules, communicate status to managers, and coordinate with cross-functional teams.
9. Prepare and execute test programs to verify performance and reliability.
10. Review complex customer specifications and develop compliant designs, with knowledge of military and ASTM/ASME standards being advantageous.
11. Learn manufacturing processes and incorporate this knowledge into product design for manufacturability.
12. Assist in developing technical and cost proposals for new projects.

Required Qualifications:

* Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electro-Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution.
* 10+ years of experience in mechanical/electromechanical equipment manufacturing, design, testing, and release.
* Ability to obtain and maintain an active DoD security clearance.
* Willingness to travel within the U.S. (<10%) for field support and testing.

Additional Qualifications:

* Knowledge of refrigeration systems and components (compressors, heat exchangers) is a plus.
* Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and collaboratively with manufacturing, electronics, controls, software, and subject matter experts in aerodynamics, stress, vibration, and acoustics.
