Responsibilities
Deliver nurse-led pregnancy advisory care, including assessment, treatment and follow-up. Provide clear, sensitive information to support informed consent and patient choice. Carry out specialist clinical procedures within scope of practice. Work with multidisciplinary colleagues to ensure safe, coordinated care. Support service improvement through audit, learning and supervision of others.
Essential Qualifications
* Registered Nurse with current NMC registration.
* Degree or diploma in Nursing.
* Teaching, assessing or mentorship qualification.
* Abortion‑care certificates or willingness to work towards them.
Desirable Qualifications
* Level 7 education or university modules, or equivalent knowledge relevant to the role.
Knowledge
* Knowledge of contraceptive and sexual health practices.
* Working knowledge of the NMC Code of Conduct, confidentiality and medicine administration.
* Knowledge of the law relating to child protection in sexual health.
* Awareness of the Modernisation Agenda and its impact on sexual health services and clients.
* Specialist clinical knowledge in sexual health, abortion care or related specialties such as gynaecology.
* Contraceptive sub‑dermal implant competency.
* Knowledge of safeguarding children and vulnerable adults.
* Awareness of research and evidence‑based practice.
* Ability to develop teaching materials.
* Good facilitation and IT skills.
* Understanding of confidentiality in the workplace.
* Knowledge of benchmarking and clinical governance.
Experience
* Clinically competent in abortion care (training can be provided if developmental).
* Significant experience in pregnancy advisory or women undergoing termination of pregnancy.
* Proven ability to coordinate and delegate workload appropriately.
* Evidence of adjustment to scope of practice, e.g. consent to treatment.
* Prioritisation and task management skills.
* Mentoring or precepting junior staff.
* Educating colleagues.
* Experience of service development (desirable).
* Experience delivering presentations (desirable).
* Autonomous practice (desirable).
