We are seeking a full‑time Band 7 Diabetes Specialist Nurse to join our diabetes team for a 12‑month fixed‑term contract.
Overview
The post holder will provide high‑quality, patient‑centred care for individuals with diabetes, working primarily in inpatient diabetes with some outpatient activity. The role involves delivering evidence‑based nursing care, supporting multidisciplinary teams, and contributing to research, education and service development.
Main Responsibilities
* Deliver nursing care as a practitioner for a defined caseload of diabetes patients.
* Provide evidence‑based care in line with current guidelines.
* Maintain clear communication within the diabetes team, hospital inpatient teams and primary healthcare teams.
* Actively participate as a member of the multidisciplinary team.
* Support and develop junior team members.
* Work autonomously to co‑ordinate and deliver expert nursing service in diabetes.
* Inform and support patients and families, providing clinical and social support.
* Develop evidence‑based clinical practice and protocols.
* Collaborate with colleagues at Princess Royal University Hospital, Denmark Hill, intermediate diabetes teams and other HCPs.
* Engage in research, audit and quality improvement projects.
Key Competencies & Duties
* Manage patient caseload, referrals, admissions and discharges.
* Develop agreed protocols, ensuring operational policies meet national standards.
* Maintain accurate patient records and documentation.
* Co‑ordinate seamless service through multidisciplinary team processes.
* Lead development of clinical protocols and strategies to enhance specialist care.
* Ensure compliance with the Trust’s Equality and Diversity Policy and support race equality initiatives.
Person Specification
* Registered Nurse (NMC Level 1 or 2) with diabetes specialist nursing experience.
* Evidence of further professional studies in diabetes.
* Experience in clinical practice, policy development, education, research and risk management within diabetes care.
* Current NMC registration and compliance with NMC Code of Conduct.
Other Requirements
* Work with confidentiality and adherence to safeguarding policies.
* Contribute to infection control as per national and Trust guidelines.
* Maintain personal and professional development, including revalidation and ongoing education.
Applicants must hold appropriate UK professional registration and be willing to undergo a Disclosure and Barring Service check in accordance with the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act.
