We currently have 3 fantastic opportunities available as a Laboratory Scientist in Microbiology to join our Science and Water Quality team in Exeter. This is a full-time, permanent role, offering a competitive salary from £26,050 to £32,724 per annum, plus additional payments for weekend work, excellent benefits, and rewards. We provide a multi-stage progression scheme aligned with business needs, with salary increases based on skill and responsibility levels.
About the role:
As a Laboratory Scientist, you will use your methodical approach and analytical skills to undertake scientific analysis of samples related to the company's activities and contracts. You will work independently and collaboratively, managing your workload and demonstrating calmness under pressure. Flexibility around workload and rota patterns is essential, including participating in standby rota once trained.
What you will be doing:
* Undertaking microbiological analysis using approved methods and maintaining accurate laboratory records for accreditation
* Adhering to UKAS accreditation requirements to meet ISO 17025 standards, including auditing, proficiency testing, and validation
* Maintaining Continuing Professional Development records and demonstrating ongoing competence
* Using data to determine result validity and making decisions regarding certification and further actions
* Reporting results to customers and handling internal queries
* Investigating and documenting procedure breaches
* Training other laboratory personnel as needed
* Following Health & Safety procedures and contributing to safety improvements
* Participating in standby rota for emergency out-of-hours service as required
What we are looking for:
* A minimum of A level / BTEC level 3 or equivalent in Biology or Chemistry
* Computer literacy, including Microsoft Office
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team
* Good verbal and written communication skills
* Organized with a methodical workload approach and good prioritization skills
* Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills
* Willingness to participate in career development schemes
* Experience in an ISO 17025 environment (desirable)
* Recent qualification in a science-related field or relevant water analysis experience
