Senior Environmental and Sustainability Consultant

Mott MacDonald is a global engineering, management, and development consultancy. The Environment, Nature, and Consents business is looking for an experienced Senior Consultant to contribute to a growing pipeline of exciting opportunities.


Overview of the role

As part of the ESS team, you will coordinate, deliver and manage environmental and sustainability workstreams throughout the project lifecycle. The role may be based out of any of Mott MacDonald’s UK offices, with a preference for the locations listed above, and may involve travel within the UK and internationally.


Responsibilities

* Lead EIA screening and scoping, and produce Environmental Statements and other environmental reports.
* Coordinate technical input from multi-disciplinary specialists.
* Assist with monitoring programmes, resource utilisation and financial management on environmental projects.
* Support business development and proposal writing for environmental services.
* Engage with clients and stakeholders.
* Mentor and line‑manage environmental team members.
* Opportunities to develop an environmental technical specialism.


Candidate Specification


Essential

* Relevant academic or professional qualifications.
* Chartership recently achieved through a relevant organisation (IEMA, IES, CIWEM or similar) or progress towards Chartership.
* Experience in environmental assessment, EIA, SEA, UK environmental planning legislation and/or ESG, sustainability strategy and appraisal development.
* Client‑facing experience with ability to build relationships and influence stakeholders.
* Strong planning and management skills, capable of producing high‑quality deliverables and monitoring budgets.
* Experience leading multidisciplinary teams to deliver environmental and sustainability deliverables.


Desirable

* Bid/tender delivery experience.
* Experience in TWAO or DCO schemes, or in Water, Defence, Energy, Marine or Rail sectors.
* People management experience and support for staff development.
* Experience delivering environmental and sustainability workshops or training.
