Chartered Legal Executive
We have an exciting and brand new position to provide in-house litigation support by managing and conducting debt recovery proceedings relating to a varied caseload of debt recovery files, including commercial and consumer debts, ensuring effective recovery, while protecting the commercial and reputational interests of the business and maintaining compliance with regulatory and professional standards.
We can offer this role on a hybrid basis.
Key Responsibilities:
In-House Litigation & Case Management
1. Manage a full caseload of debt recovery matters, including county court proceedings and enforcement.
2. Conduct litigation in accordance with Civil Procedure Rules and relevant Pre-Action Protocols.
3. Draft and issue claims, particulars of claim, applications, witness statements and settlement agreements.
4. Handle defended and undefended matters, including negotiation and settlement where appropriate.
5. Attend court hearings and mediation appointments (in person or remotely) when required.
Debt Recovery Strategy & Enforcement
6. Advise the business on recovery strategies and proportional enforcement options.
7. Progress enforcement action
8. Monitor recovery performance and provide regular updates to management on outcomes and risks.
Commercial & Advisory Support
9. Provide practical legal advice to operational teams on Estate agency fee recovery, Contractual disputes, Risk exposure and litigation prospects
10. Review and advise on standard terms and conditions to improve future recoverability of debts.
11. Support early dispute resolution to minimise unnecessary litigation.
Compliance & Governance
12. Ensure all litigation is conducted in compliance with: SRA Or CILEX regulatory requirements, Civil Procedure Rules and Data protection and confidentiality obligations
13. Liaise proactively with the Group Head of Legal Professional Indemnity Insurance & Group Litigation, regarding higher‑risk matters and complaints, potential conflicts, or issues raising professional or regulatory risk.
The ideal candidate will have:
14. Minimum 1 year experience in debt recovery litigation and a
15. Qualified Solicitor (England & Wales) OR
16. Chartered Legal Executive (CILEX) holding litigation practice rights
17. Demonstrable experience handling debt recovery matters.
18. Strong working knowledge of the Civil Procedure Rules.
19. Experience managing claims within an in-house or high-volume environment.
20. Commercially focused approach to litigation and dispute resolution.
21. Excellent drafting, negotiation, and organisational skills.
22. Ability to work autonomously and manage competing priorities.
23. Excellent communication with non-legal stakeholders.
24. Resilience and adaptable in a commercial in-house setting.
25. High level of professional integrity.
