ABC Teachers is looking for a Sports Coach - School Support to join a specialist SEN School in Birmingham on a full-time basis.
About the role
Support students with a passion for sports and physical activity, using their interests as a tool to engage them in the wider curriculum and foster a love for learning.
* Work 1:1 or in small groups to provide academic support across subjects (particularly English and Maths), adapting tasks to suit individual learning styles and needs.
* Build positive relationships with students with autism and/or Social, Emotional & Mental Health (SEMH) needs, using coaching-style communication and a calm, consistent approach.
* Help integrate physical activity and movement breaks into the school day to support emotional regulation, focus and behaviour management.
* Act as a role model and mentor, encouraging positive attitudes, resilience, and healthy lifestyles, while also tracking and supporting students' academic progress.
About the school
* A Key Stage 4 SEMH (Social, Emotional & Mental Health) teaching centre for Years 10 & 11, providing full‑time education for students who have struggled to access mainstream schools due to SEMH needs.
* Has small class sizes and bespoke learning pathways, tailored to individual students' needs, abilities and interests, helping them to re‑engage, catch up, and make progress academically and personally.
* Broad, balanced curriculum including GCSEs, Functional Skills, BTEC, core subjects (English, Maths, Science), plus options and enrichment, including PE and wellbeing programmes.
* Strong focus on wellbeing and personal development, including therapies, mentoring, the “Wellbeing Wednesday” programme, and support for emotional regulation alongside academic learning.
* Based in North Birmingham, with the position available for an immediate start.
About you
To be considered for the Sports Coach - School Support position, you will:
* Have previous experience working with children and young people with a range of special educational needs, such as learning difficulties, autism, and sensory needs.
* Suitable qualifications such as Youth Work, Health and Social Care or Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools are desired but not essential.
* Have strong communications skills with the ability to quickly build rapport with students
* Able to obtain suitable references and a DBS check.
