Description Revenues & Benefits Assistants - Ref: EE12325 G6: £31,537 -£34,434 per annum We currently have a number of opportunities available in the Council Tax Recovery team, as a Revenues and Benefits Assistant. You will ensure the delivery of efficient and effective local taxation administration and collection and support the delivery of an effective Revenue collection service covering Council Tax and Business Rates. Key Responsibilities To support the effective billing, collection, and recovery of Council Tax income by undertaking recovery action in accordance with legislation, council policy, and best practice Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of Council Tax legislation, recovery processes, relevant case law, and Council policies and procedures. Handle customer enquiries arising from recovery action via telephone, letter, and email, including negotiating and agreeing appropriate payment arrangements while maintaining a strong focus on customer service. Review and manage cases returned from enforcement agents and determine the most appropriate next course of action. Effectively prioritise and manage own workload to ensure service objectives, performance targets, and customer needs are met. Supporting in debt collection in particular historic debt. Support court proceedings and assist court officers. Requirements Experience of administering Council Tax accounts including billing, discounts, exemptions, instalment arrangements, and liability checks Knowledge and experience in the recovery process and options available Excellent customer service and negotiation skills with experience of handling inbound calls and the ability to manage difficult conversations professionally. Ensure full compliance with GDPR, equalities, H&S and council procedures. GCSE-level literacy, numeracy and IT ability.
