About the Role:
As Managing Director, you will lead the journey from pilot to national launch for a DTC food brand that is as much about storytelling and emotional connection as it is about product and growth.
This is a fractional position, requiring 2–3 days per week, giving you flexibility to focus on high-impact strategic and operational priorities. The role is designed to evolve: once the pilot phase is successfully validated, there is the opportunity to transition into a full-time Managing Director role with equity participation, allowing you to take full ownership of the venture’s growth and long-term success.
You will oversee operations, partnerships, supply chain, and growth marketing, ensuring the brand’s narrative resonates with customers while driving commercial success.
Responsibilities:
Pilot Execution & Go-to-Market Strategy
* Lead the pilot phase and transition to a full national launch.
* Define go-to-market strategy, pricing, logistics, and fulfilment, ensuring alignment with the brand’s story and purpose.
* Translate data-driven insights into actionable commercial and operational plans.
Operations & Team Leadership
* Oversee core teams across marketing, operations, and customer engagement.
* Manage P&L, cashflow, and investor reporting.
* Collaborate with creative, digital, and strategic leads to deliver a cohesive, emotionally engaging brand experience.
Partnerships & Supply Chain
* Build and maintain relationships with British producers and suppliers who align with the brand’s values.
* Ensure operational excellence and scalable supply chain practices throughout growth.
Brand Storytelling & Customer Engagement
* Embed the brand’s narrative in all aspects of operations, marketing, and customer touchpoints.
* Leverage storytelling to drive emotional engagement and long-term customer loyalty.
Requirements:
* Proven experience in DTC food, FMCG, or early-stage consumer brands with an emotional/storytelling component.
* Start-up or early-stage leadership experience, with strong operational and commercial skills.
* Familiarity with DTC metrics such as CAC, retention, contribution margin, and customer lifetime value.
* Passionate about sustainability, local produce, and creating emotional connections with consumers.
* Comfortable working alongside public-facing founders and creative talent.
* Hands-on, entrepreneurial, and able to balance strategic vision with practical execution.
