Are you a skilled Machinist with a passion for innovation and a knack for precision? We're seeking a talented individual to join the Research and Development Department for a leading manufacturer of off-highway diesel engines in Peterborough.
Responsibilities
In this dynamic role, you'll be instrumental in bringing new ideas to life. You will be responsible for performing a variety of machining tasks to support current and new programs, working to tight deadlines. This will involve:
1. Reading and interpreting complex engineering drawings.
2. Following engineers' instructions meticulously.
3. Operating a range of machinery, including CNC and conventional lathes, milling machines, grinding, and boring machines, to produce high-quality parts.
4. Adhering strictly to company processes, including safety, standard work, and quality.
This role primarily involves hands-on build shop operations (85%), with the remaining 15% dedicated to valuable training and process improvement activities. The core hours are 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, with flexibility to be discussed.
What You'll Bring
* Strong PC skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office and email.
* Proven experience operating conventional lathes, milling machines, grinding, and boring machines, and/or CNC programming/operating.
* Expertise in using various measuring equipment, such as vernier calipers, depth gauges, and thread gauges.
* The ability to confidently read and interpret engineering drawings.
* A self-motivated approach with excellent teamwork skills.
* Initiative, strong problem-solving abilities, and a positive attitude to change.
* Willingness to work shifts if required (currently no shift work in this area).
Bonus Points If You Have
* An Apprenticeship / City and Guilds / NVQ Level 3 in Machining or equivalent qualifications.
* Previous experience in work coordination or leadership.
* Experience using Mazak 5-axis Mazatrol Smooth X control or Feature Cam.
* Experience using Haas ST 10 Fanuc control.
