Assistant Lawyer\n\nSalary: £49,528- £58,268 pa\n\nLocation: London – Hybrid (2 days per week minimum office attendance)\n\nContract: Fixed term contract (12 months with possibility of extension)\n\nHours: Full time \n\nThe General Dental Council (GDC) is the statutory body responsible for regulating dental professionals in the UK.\n\nWe have an exciting opportunity in our In-house Legal Services Team for lawyers to join the team. Our Assistant Lawyers conduct a high-volume caseload of the Council’s fitness to practise cases, including those referred to the Interim Orders Committee, and ensure cases are prepared for presentation before one of the GDC’s statutory committees in a timely and cost-effective manner.\n\nThe role:\n\nConduct a high volume of fitness to practise cases, including interview order hearings, and associated Court proceedings, under the supervision of the Senior Lawyers.\n\t\nDraft detailed case plans, estimating the resources and time required to prepare for a hearing, and determining the evidence required to support a case.\n\t\nUndertake effective case and cost management in accordance with team procedures.\n\t\nConduct witness interviews and statement drafting and identifying and supporting vulnerable witnesses.\n\t\nInstruct and liaise with appropriately experienced Counsel and experts in the preparation and presentation of cases.\n\t\nMaintain accurate and secure case files and records using case management systems and processes.\n\t\nPrepare case papers, including hearing bundles and submissions, and ensuring hearing arrangements are in place.\n\t\nManage case related communications and work effectively with internal and external stakeholders including informants, defence organisations, internal lawyers, and the Dental Professionals Hearings Service to ensure the expeditious progression of cases.\n\t\nSupervising and directing the work of more junior team members and supporting their development.\n\t\nParticipating in team and organisation project work and training, and sharing outcomes, learning and good practice across the team.\n\t\nDemonstrate positive alignment with organisational behaviours and values, including equality, diversity and inclusion.\n\nAbout you:\n\nThe successful candidate will: \n\nBe qualified as a solicitor, barrister, Chartered Legal Executive or equivalent (essential).\n\t\nHave managed a caseload of regulatory, criminal or civil cases (eg Personal Injury) with excellent organisational and time management skills (essential).\n\t\nHave knowledge of the legal framework relating to professional discipline/regulation (desirable) or transferrable criminal or civil litigation experience.\n\t\nHave strong drafting and legal analytical skills (essential). \n\nBenefits:\n\nThe GDC is committed to creating a diverse and inclusive workplace, that provides an environment that reflects our values and culture and allows employees to flourish.\n\nTo support this we offer a range of family friendly, inclusive employment policies, including flexible working arrangements from day one and employee networks that aid growth and development.\n\nSome of our benefits include: \n\n27 days holiday (plus statutory) - rising to 30 days after 2 years’ service\n\t\nFlexitime scheme\n\t\nEmployer pension contributions up to 10%\n\t\nBuy/Sell annual leave\n\t\nEnhanced Maternity, Paternity and Adoption leave from 1 years’ service.\n\t\nLife assurance, income protection plan and enhanced sick leave policy\n\t\nStaff discounts including eye care contributions and discounted gym membership. \n\nWe encourage and support the recruitment, retention, and career development of people from as wide a range as possible of ethnic, cultural and social backgrounds. \n\nHow to apply: \n\nFor further details about the role and to apply please click the apply button. \n\nClosing date: 23:59 on 15 June 2025. \n\nPlease note that we reserve the right to bring this recruitment campaign to an end without notice, and we encourage all interested candidates to apply as soon as possible. \n\nThe GDC is committed to equality and diversity.
