Overview
Life Cycle Engineer - Combat. Full time. Bristol / Hybrid – 3 days on site per week. The role is part of the UK & I Mature Programmes Life Cycle Engineering – Combat Team, providing in-service technical support to ensure safe, reliable operation and influencing maturity across the product life cycle to meet customer and business needs.
This is a customer-facing engineering role that involves ownership of operational issues and acting as the technical interface with operators, partners, regulators and maintenance facilities. The position requires balancing customer needs with business demands and collaborating with specialist engineering areas such as Stress, Critical Parts Lifing, Safety and Reliability, Performance and Controls.
Responsibilities
* Act as the customer engineering interface for in-service operation, working with operators, partners, airframer, regulators and maintenance facilities to provide product technical support.
* Manage known and potential safety issues (Safety Alert Report & Red Top).
* Identify, investigate and resolve in-service technical issues; lead investigations to establish root cause and implement containment or corrective actions as required.
* Prepare and deliver technical communications (presentations and/or reports) to platform providers, regulators, customers and internal stakeholders, including developing and approving technical content of publications and acceptance limit development.
* Manage issues affecting Maturity, Lifecycle Cost, Reliability and Maintainability; maintain Design Intent and identify cost reduction opportunities by reviewing life cycle engineering policies and maintenance planning documentation.
* Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and internal/external stakeholder needs.
* Influence new product design with in-service experience and develop support strategies across the product lifecycle to meet customer and business requirements.
Qualifications and Skills
* Educated to degree level in a STEM subject and/or relevant engineering experience (Mechanical, Aeronautical, Electrical or Controls). Other qualifications with relevant experience may be considered.
* A broad understanding of Gas Turbine physical and functional characteristics and familiarity with in-service operation environments; training will be provided to develop this knowledge.
* Highly numerate with strong technical and analytical skills, problem-solving ability and systems thinking; excellent communication and presentation skills; able to contribute effectively in a team.
* Demonstrated customer focus, business awareness, and understanding of process improvement principles; ability to lead investigations and coordinate cross-functional teams (e.g., specialists, suppliers, customers, partners) and to specify/execute packages of work.
* Willingness to travel within the UK and overseas, sometimes on short notice and for extended periods to meet business needs.
Location and Working Pattern
Bristol / Hybrid – 3 days on site per week. Hybrid working balances office time with home/remote locations; attendance in the workplace is required for collaboration and specific role needs as determined by the business.
