Overview
We are looking for a 0.8 wte Band 6 Occupational Therapist to work in our existing stroke team. You will be responsible for providing assessment, treatment and evaluation to patients on the acute stroke wards at Colchester Hospital. You will be an autonomous professional practitioner, able to carry out appraisals and clinical supervision for more junior team members, and act as a clinical educator to students on placement with the team.
Responsibilities
* Conduct Occupational Therapy assessments of patients with diverse presentations and complex conditions to inform diagnosis and develop and deliver individualised treatment programmes.
* Provide treatment, rehabilitation and evaluation within the stroke team, delivering 7-day stroke rehabilitation as part of the service.
* Develop neurological expertise within the team and contribute to the Specialist Stroke Team care for patients who have had a recent stroke.
* Work autonomously without direct supervision and prioritise referrals and workload.
* Delegate appropriately and manage assistant practitioners and therapy assistants within the team.
* Supervise therapy assistants, deliver training where required, and supervise, educate and assess the performance of OT students.
* Practice in accordance with the Royal College of Occupational Therapists’ standards of professional conduct andBehaviour and the Health Professions Council's regulations.
* Contribute to staff development, including appraisals and clinical supervision for junior staff.
Qualifications and Requirements
* Qualified Occupational Therapist with Band 6 level experience in a stroke/neurology setting.
* Autonomous practitioner with ability to work without direct supervision and to manage a varied workload.
* Experience in supervising, educating and assessing students and junior staff; ability to delegate and lead a small team.
* Committed to clinical excellence, continuing professional development and adherence to professional standards.
