Depending on your skills, knowledge, and background, you will support the delivery of works relating to either Domestic & Communal Heating & Water Services or Electrical & Mechanical Services.
In this role, you will coordinate the design, installation, and maintenance of a wide range of systems across various residential building types, ensuring the council's housing assets remain safe and well maintained while also driving improvements that make a meaningful difference to our tenants.
This is a full time, permanent role working 37 hours per week (Monday to Friday). The role is hybrid, combining office-based work at the Mowmacre Hill Hub Office with regular site visits across the city, and home working, dependant on the needs of the service.
This is a career graded post (LG Band 07 - Post No N0225B) - LG Band 08 Post No N0225A). Appointment to a level will depend on the outcome of the selection process and experience of the successful candidate. Dependent on availability of work/vacancy at a higher level, progress will be by satisfactory performance, agreed at annual Appraisals and through on-going supervision.
What you'll be doing
As a Technical Officer, you will carry out property surveys across council-owned and managed assets, identifying defects and recommending, specifying, and monitoring all remedial works. You will prepare technical reports, specifications, and drawings to support both responsive and planned maintenance, including documentation that may be required for legal purposes. You will also coordinate minor and major repairs with internal teams and external contractors, ensuring all works are delivered on time, within budget, and to a high standard.
By applying your knowledge of housing and building legislation including Building Regulations, Codes of Practice, Health and Safety requirements, Decent Homes Standards, and CDM (Construction Design and Management) Regulations you will provide informed advice and responses to colleagues, tenants, and other stakeholders. You will also manage budgets effectively, ensuring that projects and services deliver strong value for money.
What you'll need
Significant experience of working within a building services setting, undertaking design/installation/maintenance works covering a wide range of systems and applications under the headings of Heating/Plumbing, Electrical and Mechanical services within various residential building types.
You’ll have a strong understanding of legislation, codes of practice, and design standards relevant to residential building services and their continued maintenance and improvements. And the ability to analyse problems, make appropriate decisions, and deliver practical advice, guidance, and solutions.
With excellent communication and interpersonal skills, you’ll have the confidence to work with Tenants, Councillors, Professionals and Stakeholders at all levels. You’ll have strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities effectively. In addition, you’ll be able to create clear and professional reports and are able to use standard IT systems.
Due to the nature of this role, you’ll need to hold a full driving licence, have access to, and be willing to use your own transport for work purposes.
