Job Overview

Band 5 Looked After Children's Nurse- Full and part- time hours available for this community team.

We are currently recruiting to the Looked after Children's (LAC) team, to support our Looked After Child Programme, you will support the LAC nursing team in an identified geographical area, however this will also necessitate travel across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland. This is a great opportunity to support the needs of vulnerable children, whilst working in a supportive, friendly team.

You will work with children and young people within the three local authorities in conjunction with other professionals, families and care givers, to maximise their health potential and address their health inequalities.

Job Description Summary (Main duties and responsibilities)

You will be responsible for assessing the health of this group of children and young people and implementing any necessary care pathways. You will be offered an induction period to ensure you feel competent to carry out the role, a preceptor to guide you and ongoing training and support for your development. You will work under the guidance of a senior Band 6 nurse, undertaking tasks delegated by senior staff including Band 6 nurse, Clinical Team Leader (CTL), Practice Development Nurse (PDN), and the Family Service Manager (FSM)/Named Nurse.

As the ideal candidate, you should have an understanding of Looked After Children and the service we provide, you would need to be able to demonstrate a strong desire to improve the outcomes of these children and young people and demonstrate your understanding of the importance of working collaboratively with our multidisciplinary colleagues to achieve this.

You must understand the importance of safeguarding children, you will be responsible for attending or contributing to case conferences, Looked After Children's reviews, pathway planning meetings, professional meetings and strategy meetings, to support the delivery of service to meet their needs. You will attend and contribute to monthly LAC Nurse Team meetings.

You will understand and demonstrate excellent record keeping, be able to work on your own initiative but be a strong team member, demonstrating a well organised and flexible approach to cover our core hours of 8 am -17.30 pm hours. Please note that this role requires a full UK driving license and access to a car during working hours.
