Job Overview
The Medical Education Manager will work closely with the Director of Postgraduate Medical Education (DPGME), Training Directors, College Tutors and other education leads to develop the Trust’s general education strategy. The role provides strategic direction, specialist medical training knowledge, planning and leadership to the Postgraduate Education Team, including guidance on national policies and current legislation relating to medical training and service level agreements.
Main Responsibilities
* Ensure the delivery of an effective and cost‑efficient Postgraduate Medical Education (PGME) service to facilitate training for Resident doctors and their consultant trainers.
* Lead on budget management and expenditure within PGME.
* Collect data and evidence to support performance indicators and maintain appropriate databases.
* Liaise with NHSE / Health Education England, coordinate visits, produce regular reports and cascade information to faculty.
* Manage the consultant trainers’ database, the residents’ training programme, induction processes and study leave processes.
* Develop and update local postgraduate education policies and procedures in line with national guidance.
* Train consultants and doctors in training on the use of educational portfolios and related resources.
* Provide local support and information for resident doctors, including career support and support for doctors in difficulty.
* Line‑manage the PGME administrative staff.
* Manage and implement new education projects and initiatives.
* Oversee resident doctors’ induction.
* Provide support and guidance across the wider postgraduate workforce, including clinical fellows, SAS doctors and consultants, and advise candidates on CESR/Portfolio pathways, fellowship alumni schemes and new consultant/clinical lead development schemes.
Person Specification
Education
Essential: Degree level or equivalent level experience.
Desirable: Postgraduate qualification in a relevant subject or equivalent level experience.
Essential Criteria
* Self‑directed ability to work autonomously, prioritise workload and act on initiative.
* Highly advanced organisational skills and ability to coordinate and prioritise complex projects.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to liaise with busy medical professionals and senior management.
* Experience of a minimum of two years in medical education or the health education sector.
Desirable Criteria
* Knowledge of medical education and training issues.
