An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Clinical Nurse Specialist to join the Head neck and thyroid oncology team. The post holder will be expected to care for patients with Thyroid malignancies and cross cover for Head and Neck Cancers. They will be an addition to an established and comprehensive specialist nursing service of Clinical Nurse Specialists, Healthcare Support worker, and Advanced Practice Nurse.
The successful candidate will be enthusiastic and experienced, who enjoys patient contact and working in a multi-disciplinary environment to support the delivery of a quality service. You must be able to demonstrate good communication skills, flexibility, reliability and have an organised approach to work. Due to the nature of the role, we are looking for a dependable and highly adaptable individual who is able to work interdependently and independently. Patients will be from both Private care and NHS
Main duties of the job
To provide professional and clinical leadership and expertise in the care of patients with Thyroid and Head & Neck conditions, including those at risk of developing such disease.
To act as a resource for information and support and to demonstrate progressive professional development in all areas of Thyroid and Head & Neck nursing to the benefit of patients, their carers and staff.
To continue to develop and enhance specialist skills through continued formal and informal education, mentoring, reflective practice and clinical supervision.
To contribute to the formulation of policies and patient information.
To liaise effectively with all members of the multi-disciplinary health care team to achieve a synchronized specialist service.
To help deliver teaching on specialist courses, diploma and degree courses, as well as informal one-to-one teaching with staff.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
To sustain a high-quality specialist service for the patient, from diagnosis through all stages of the disease. In particular to provide support, education, and counselling advice on treatment related issues with other members of the multidisciplinary team.
To collaborate with Cancer Care teams, both within The Trust and with primary and acute care providers to ensure a streamlined patient-centred care pathway.
In collaboration with the Lead Nurse, Advanced Nurse Practitioners and Clinical Nurse Specialists, and other members of the multi-disciplinary team, formulate and/or revise relevant policies and guidelines, and to regularly review them following changes/implementation. To always work within the policies and procedures of The Trust.

1. First level registration
2. Evidence of ongoing professional development
3. First level degree in relevant subject
4. Higher degree or willingness to undertake one
5. Teaching qualification/experience
Experience

6. 5 years relevant experience post First Level Registration in an acute setting
7. To have experience in the management of the patients with Head, Neck & Thyroid disease
8. To have experience in the treatment of patients using radioisotopes
9. Clinical skills e.g., Airway management / Altered Airways

Flu Vaccination – What We Expect of our Staff
At The Royal Marsden we have an immune compromised patient population who we must protect as much as we can against the flu virus. Each year, seasonal flu affects thousands of people in the UK. Occurring mainly in winter, it is an infectious respiratory disease capable of producing symptoms ranging from those similar to a common cold, through to very severe or even fatal disease.
The wellbeing of our staff and patients is of the upmost importance to us, and it is the expectation of The Royal Marsden that all patient-facing staff have an annual flu vaccination, provided free of charge by the Trust.
