The Role We are a leading life sciences organisation specialising in metals and commodities analysis. ALS are known for our commitment to quality and innovation, we provide accurate testing and expert analytical support to a wide range of industries. We are currently looking for a reliable, detail-focused individual to join our laboratory team as a Balance Operator on a fixed-term, late-shift basis. In this hands-on role, you will be responsible for the precise weighing and preparation of samples to support downstream laboratory testing. Working as part of our late-shift team, you’ll operate in a fast-paced environment where accuracy, safety, and strong teamwork are essential. About the Position Shift: 1:30pm-9:30pm Contract: Full-time, fixed term contract Salary: Competitive, with opportunities for progression The day to day Preparing and handling samples through careful mixing, blending, and dipping techniques Operating high-precision analytical balances and moisture analysis equipment Interpreting moisture results to support accurate laboratory reporting Replenishing materials and ensuring smooth workflow across the team Organising, storing, and distributing samples with accuracy and care Maintaining a clean, safe, and efficient working environment in line with company standards The Essentials A positive attitude and a genuine willingness to learn Great organisational skills and a methodical approach to tasks Strong attention to detail and the ability to stay focused Confidence with basic maths and English (GCSE level or equivalent) Familiarity with Microsoft Office is a plus Any previous lab experience (paid or voluntary) is welcomed but not essential Working at ALS The ALS team is a diverse and dedicated community united by our passion to make a difference in the world.
