Main duties of the job
Within the role of the Practice Nurse, you will provide care and management of patients with long‑term health conditions such as respiratory and/or diabetes, as well as all aspects of nursing care duties such as wound care, adult and childhood immunisations, travel vaccinations, cervical cytology screening, contraception and sexual health screening, and promoting a healthy lifestyle.
IPC experience is a must as the role also includes being the surgery's IPC lead.
Job responsibilities
* Managing long‑term conditions with a keen interest in respiratory or diabetes.
* Working collaboratively with general practitioners to provide the highest level of care.
* Assessing, evaluating and monitoring treatment plans.
* Be competent and up to date with cervical cytology screening, adult and childhood immunisations, travel vaccinations, wound dressings, contraception management and all aspects of general practice nursing.
* Be proactive in promoting a healthy lifestyle and navigate to appropriate services.
* Mentor and support health care assistants.
* Advise on foreign travel and administering travel vaccinations.
* Managing complex pressure dressings and wound care management.
* Ensure infection control procedures and policies are followed and kept current.
* Participate in practice audits, development plans and meetings.
* Maintain own annual registration with the NMC and adhere to the Code of Professional Conduct.
* Promote own continuous professional development.
* Any other reasonable duties that may be required on occasion.

* Experience of working in Primary Care is preferable.
* Accredited training in chronic disease management
* Qualification in COPD/Asthma management including spirometry interpretation and diabetes management.
* Cervical cytology qualification
* Childhood immunisations
* Compression dressing and wound management
* Coil and ring pessary fitting/removal
* All relevant and necessary training would be given to the right candidate who has a willingness to learn and undertake training.
