About the Role
We seek an experienced Senior Social Worker (2+ years PQ experience) to join Birmingham Children’s Trust, recently rated GOOD by Ofsted—a reflection of our commitment to high-quality practice, strong leadership, and positive outcomes for children and families.
As a Senior Social Worker, you will safeguard and promote the welfare of vulnerable children and young people by delivering high-quality, evidence-based social work. You will manage a caseload, undertake assessments, coordinate interventions, and work collaboratively with multi‑agency partners to ensure the best outcomes for children across the city.
Key Responsibilities
* Hold and manage a varied caseload involving children in need, child protection, and children looked after.
* Undertake high-quality assessments that meet statutory requirements and reflect the needs, wishes, and safety of the child.
* Implement child‑centred interventions that promote welfare, safety, independence, and resilience.
* Analyse information effectively to inform decision-making and ensure timely care planning.
Safeguarding
* Prioritise the safety and wellbeing of children at all times.
* Identify risk, contribute to strategy discussions, and attend safeguarding and multi‑agency meetings.
* Work with families, carers, and partner agencies to ensure that the child’s voice is central to all actions.
Partnership & Multi‑Agency Work
* Build effective working relationships with professionals across statutory, voluntary, health, and education sectors.
* Ensure services are coordinated and delivered collaboratively to achieve the best outcomes.
Recording & Reporting
* Accurately record case notes, assessments, and decisions using the Trust’s information systems.
* Prepare high-quality reports for court, case conferences, and multi‑agency reviews.
Professional Development & Contribution
* Maintain up-to-date knowledge of legislation, policy, and best practice.
* Participate in supervision, reflective practice, and ongoing training.
* Support team development activities and engage positively with organisational initiatives.
Requirements
Essential Qualifications
* Approved Social Work qualification (e.g., BA, MA, DipSW).
* Registration with Social Work England (SWE).
Essential Experience
* Minimum 2 years post‑qualifying experience working with vulnerable children and families.
* Experience working effectively with multi‑agency partners.
* Proven ability to manage complex caseloads.
Essential Skills & Competencies
* Strong knowledge of child protection, safeguarding procedures, and relevant legislation.
* Ability to analyse information, assess risk, and make sound professional judgments.
* Strong verbal and written communication skills.
* Ability to manage challenging situations with resilience and professionalism.
* Competent IT and case recording skills.
* Respect for diversity and a commitment to equality and inclusion.
Desirable
* Experience supporting students or newly qualified workers.
* Evidence of continuous professional development beyond statutory requirements.

* SWE Registration.
