Overview
This is a 12-month fixed-term post to improve the Prostate CNS service provided at Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust. The post holder will also support the urodynamics service. We are looking for a nurse with demonstrable urological experience to join our team as a Clinical Nurse Specialist to drive forward the service and influence the positive experience of patients and carers living with prostate conditions. The role involves delivering advanced autonomous nursing practice for suspected prostate cancer diagnostics in a high-volume centre. It requires delivery of a comprehensive diagnostic pathway from referral to diagnosis and onward liaison with other services (e.g. Clinical/Medical Oncology). Clinical triage of referrals, interpretation of investigations, and managing benign diagnoses with a patient-centred approach are pivotal. If successful, you will work as an independent practitioner and with the multidisciplinary team, provide advice and support to patients, carers, and healthcare professionals under the pathway. You will promote safe, competent and evidence-based practice in line with national objectives and within the clinical governance framework.
Main duties of the job
* Work with the CNS support to assist in managing a caseload of patients within the specialty as part of the multidisciplinary team, delivering individualised and personalised direct patient care.
* Act as a key worker to patients, ensuring that their needs are identified and met, including Holistic Needs Assessments and associated care plans, with GP awareness of all care plans.
* Run nurse-led TAC, support TP biopsies, attend SMDT, implement actions following SMDT meetings, and conduct telephone clinic reviews post-MRI/TP biopsy.
* Support diagnostic suite procedures such as prostate biopsy.
* Liaise with other disciplines to utilise available expertise and ensure high-quality urology care; provide cover across the service and within the team as appropriate; support role development according to patient needs and research findings.
* Complete urodynamics testing.
