Global Witness is hiring a Data Investigator to support the delivery of a major new project focused on abandoned and orphaned oil and gas wells in Europe.
Responsibilities
You will work with the Senior Data Investigator to develop the core database underpinning the project’s public‑facing map, support data analysis and investigations that uncover the environmental, financial and public interest issues linked to abandoned oil and gas wells, and contribute to the wider work of the Data Investigations Team.
You will also support the development and delivery of other data‑led investigations, strengthen data investigation practice across the organisation, and help ensure that data is used effectively in publications and advocacy.
Qualifications
Experience supporting data‑led investigations, research or public‑interest reporting, and a desire to develop your skills as a data investigator.
Confidence working with complex datasets and a range of advanced data collection and analysis methods to identify impactful lines of inquiry and turn complex information into publishable findings.
Interest in building and maintaining public‑facing databases and data products that support investigations and advocacy.
Collaborative, ability to work across teams, build trusted relationships and use skills to support project goals and campaigning objectives.
Proactive, motivated, with good judgement.
Work arrangements and benefits
Hybrid work model: at least two days in the office. The organisation is piloting a shorter working week with 30 hours Monday to Thursday, Friday off, with no impact on full‑time salary.
