We are looking for a Volunteer to join St John's Hospice to assist patients, visitors and staff on the Inpatient Unit.
Minimum commitment of 1 shift per week.

· The volunteer is required to work within the list of tasks identified as follows:
1. To inform nursing staff if patient complains of feeling unwell.
2. To assist with main entrance intercom system from ward clerk's desk whenever main reception is not staffed.
3. To meet & greet new visitors to the ward environment and signpost available facilities, eg ward kitchen, toilets.
4. To prepare patient bedroom for mealtimes, eg ensure table tops are cleared and cleaned, offer handwashing/handwipes to patients prior to mealtimes.
5. To liaise with the catering team to support patients with mealtimes, set out the trays, deliver to each patient room and prepare trays for next mealtime.
6. To support the catering team with mealtimes both prior to and after patient meals
7. To support patients and visitors with drinks, refreshments and afternoon tea including refreshing water jugs.
8. To ensure any flowers and plants are monitored and removed as appropriate (with patient's permission)
9. To support meaningful activities with patients, such as playing cards, dominoes etc, chatting with patient, reading to patient and general conversation whenever patient indicates interest, however you need to be aware of patient cues and acknowledge that activities may not be appropriate at that time.
10. To work alongside Nursing team to maintain a safe environment
11. To liaise with Nursing team in regard to any stock replenishment needed, eg stationary, photocopying or ward cupboards.
