Lead Frontend Engineer (React, TypeScript, JavaScript)

A tech for good company focused on building secure, mission-critical software for enterprise sectors is looking to hire a Lead Frontend Engineer to take a leadership role on their flagship product.
This is a hands-on position where you’ll drive frontend development using React and TypeScript while leading a small team of developers in a high-impact, data-intensive environment. The software you’ll help shape directly supports professionals working in complex and sensitive domains.
Your Role:
* Frontend Development: Build and enhance responsive user interfaces with React, TypeScript, and modern JavaScript standards.
* Team Leadership: Mentor and manage a small group of engineers (2–3), offering technical guidance, code reviews, and career support.
* Cross-Disciplinary Collaboration: Partner with design, product, and backend teams to turn technical requirements into clean, user-focused solutions.
* API Integration: Connect frontend features with robust RESTful and GraphQL APIs for dynamic data handling.
* Quality and Performance: Champion best practices in testing, performance tuning, and maintainable code.
What You'll Bring:
* Strong experience in React, TypeScript, JavaScript, HTML, and CSS
* Strong background in delivering frontend projects from planning through to production
* Track record of leading a team of 2+ developers, providing mentorship and coaching to bring the best out of them
* Comfortable integrating with REST and/or GraphQL APIs
* Familiar with scalable frontend structures, component libraries, and design systems
* Good grasp of testing strategies and modern development pipelines
* Strong communicator and effective collaborator in a remote-first team
Desirable Extras:
* Experience with MobX or similar state management tools
* Familiarity with AWS, GitHub Actions, or CircleCI
* Exposure to tools for data visualisation or geospatial mapping
* Background in secure, regulated, or compliance-focused software projects
