About the Role
TaiSan is developing next-generation polymer electrolyte to enable Sodium Batteries 2.0 — higher energy density, safer and scalable. We are looking to recruit a Lab Technician to support our fast-moving R&D and pilot development work by ensuring our laboratory infrastructure, equipment, and safety systems operate reliably and compliantly.
In this role, you will be responsible for equipment setup, servicing, compliance paperwork, and day-to-day lab readiness. You will play a key role in ensuring TaiSan’s lab environment meets UK standards and remains safe, efficient, and audit-ready as we scale.
Key Responsibilities
Lab Operations & Equipment
* Service, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment to ensure continuous uptime.
* Set up new equipment and ensure correct installation, calibration, and readiness for use.
* Support scientists and engineers with equipment preparation and workflow setup.
* Maintain a clean, safe, and well-organized laboratory environment.
Health & Safety (H&S)
* Organize and coordinate H&S trainings for team members.
* Ensure safety procedures are followed and documented consistently.
* Support risk assessments, SOPs, and safe handling procedures for chemicals and battery materials.
* Handle and manage COSHH forms for all chemicals
* Monitor the chemical storage
* Proactively identify safety risks and support mitigation actions.
Compliance & Standards
* Ensure all lab paperwork, documentation, and compliance records are complete and up to date.
* Ensure laboratory equipment meets required UK standards and regulatory expectations.
* Maintain readiness for audits, inspections, and compliance checks.
* Work closely with the local council and relevant authorities to address compliance issues or operational requirements.
Requirements
Required Qualifications
* Experience working as a lab technician or similar role in a technical laboratory environment.
* Hands-on experience servicing and setting up laboratory equipment.
* Knowledge of UK laboratory compliance requirements and documentation practices.
* Strong understanding of UK battery lab regulations and safety standards.
* High attention to detail, reliability, and ability to manage multiple lab priorities.
* Good communication skills and ability to work closely with scientists, engineers, and external stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
* Experience working in battery labs, chemical labs, or polymer/materials labs.
* Experience supporting hazard management (chemicals, solvents, reactive materials).
* Experience coordinating with external inspectors, councils, or regulatory bodies.
* Comfort working in an early-stage deep-tech startup environment.
