Job Summary

An exciting opportunity within an inhouse legal team at a community and mental health NHS Trust. The candidate will need significant experience undertaking employment litigation and giving employment advice. Ideally, the successful candidate will have exposure to other areas covered by the legal team (inquests, claims, court of protection and general healthcare queries); training will be provided, but there must be a willingness to branch out into these additional areas.

This is a full-time post, but part-time applications will be considered. Interviews are scheduled for 16th October 2025.

Responsibilities

* Lead on employment litigation and provide employment advisory services.
* Develop relationships with staff at both NHS trusts as well as external stakeholders to deliver high-quality service.
* Support areas including inquests, claims, court of protection and matters relating to confidentiality.
* Collaborate with a team of 3 solicitors and 4 paralegal staff to support the work undertaken.
* Respond to urgent queries and assist other staff as needed.

Qualifications and Experience

* Essential: Solicitor or Barrister, or equivalent, with current ability to practise.
* Significant experience of advocacy in Employment Tribunals and extensive experience in employment law.
* Sound knowledge of the principles and processes of dealing with English Courts and Tribunal Services; ability to analyse and advise on highly complex matters, both orally and in writing.
* Desirable: experience of healthcare law; experience in other forms of healthcare-related litigation (e.g., Coroners Court, professional regulatory matters).
* UK professional registration and ability to provide original certificates to verify qualifications at offer.

Benefits

* 27 days leave plus bank holidays, increasing up to 33 days with long service.
* Generous NHS pension and enhanced pay when working unsocial hours.
* Flexible and agile working opportunities.
* Great maternity, paternity and adoption support, and access to supportive staff networks.
* Wellbeing opportunities and flexible working options.

Other information

What we offer: flexible working options, diversity and inclusion, and opportunities to grow within the NHS family. This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1975 and will require a Disclosure to the DBS. Applications from job seekers who require Skilled Worker sponsorship are welcome and will be considered alongside all other applications. Applicants must have current UK professional registration. Interviews are scheduled for 16 October 2025.
