About HoloMem -
HoloMem is a technology company developing holographic data storage solutions to radically lessen the environmental impact of cloud computing. Since forming in 2020 we have developed and patented a unique system which writes and reads data as holograms in a material which can withstand incredibly harsh environmental conditions. This makes it an ideal technology for use in cloud data storage, an industry which currently produces 2.5% of global carbon emissions.
Having partaken in both the Intel Ignite and Deeptech Labs accelerators in 2024 and closing a seed plus raise in early 2025 HoloMem is now looking to expedite the development of its pioneering technology by growing its team of problem solvers to support our exciting next chapter.
Job Summary -
We are seeking an enthusiastic Mechanical Engineer to join our dynamic and growing team. As a Mechanical Engineer at HoloMem, you will leverage your creative mindset and engineering skills to contribute to the development and optimisation of our cutting-edge data storage systems. Your expertise in mechanical or design engineering will be instrumental in achieving our ambitious goals.
Key Responsibilities -
* Push the capabilities of holographic data storage technologies by creating innovative solutions to challenging problems
* Be a technical leader within a group of mechanical, optical and software engineers, providing critical feedback and suggestions for continuous improvement
* Lead product development across the entire lifecycle from idea, through prototyping and into production and deployment
* Architect the numerous subsystems of holographic data storage systems for performance, manufacturability and reliability
* Document and maintain design specifications drawings and technical documentation
* Engineer the next generation of data storage technology
Requirements -
* Can share a strong portfolio of previous work
* Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in mechanical engineering, mechatronics engineering, design engineering or a related field
* 3+ years experience as a Design Engineer, preferably in a technology focused industry
* Have experience with the full product development cycle
* Enjoy the gritty details of part design, material selection and manufacturing techniques
* Use 3D CAD to design components, produce drawings, and build assemblies
* Can prototype your own designs in our well equipped workshop
* Are hands-on and willing to cross discipline boundaries to solve a problem
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively within cross-functional teams.
* Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic startup environment
Bonus skills -
* Basic electronics, soldering and wiring skills to assist in integration of mechanical and electronic components
* Utilise Arduino and Raspberry Pi platforms to develop prototypes, test functionality and validate design concepts
* Have practical experience with Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) for creation of fabrication drawings
* Familiarity with precision machine design, motion control and metrology
