SEND Teaching Assistant – Specialist Provision for Complex Needs
Location: Newcastle upon Tyne
Salary: £89–£103 per day
Contract: Full-time, Term Time Only

Are you passionate about supporting children and young people with complex and varied needs? We’re working with an outstanding non-maintained special school in Newcastle that supports students aged 3 to 19 with a broad range of additional needs, including Autism, hearing and visual impairments, speech and language difficulties, and profound and multiple learning disabilities (PMLD).
This is a highly specialised setting that provides tailored education through small class sizes, a multi-disciplinary team approach, and excellent facilities. The school is known for its nurturing environment and was recently rated Good by Ofsted, with Outstanding features.
We are looking for a caring, consistent, and proactive Teaching Assistant to join the team in supporting pupils across Early Years, Primary, Secondary, or Post-16, depending on your experience and preferences.
What you’ll be doing:
* Providing 1:1 or small group support to pupils with complex needs
* Assisting with communication systems (PECS, Makaton, AAC, or BSL)
* Supporting pupils with sensory, physical, or medical needs (including moving & handling, feeding, or personal care)
* Creating a safe and inclusive space for learning and interaction
* Working alongside therapists, teachers, and families to implement personalised education and care plans
What we’re looking for:
* Experience supporting children or young people with SEND, particularly Autism, SLCN, VI/HI, or PMLD
* Confidence with personal care and medical needs (training provided if required)
* Calm, empathetic and resilient approach
* Strong communication and teamwork skills
