Job Summary
We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced and skilled Occupational Therapist to join us within the Falls and Syncope Service (FASS). We are looking for a motivated and flexible Occupational Therapist to join our team as a Clinical Specialist. The post is fortunate to sit within a well‑established and supportive MDT and benefits from excellent support from the OT department. Here in Gateshead we encourage and support continuing professional development and have robust supervision processes.
The post holder will work in collaboration with the Occupational Therapy Service Lead and the FASS MDT colleagues to deliver and shape services. There will be opportunities to develop a wide range of clinical, teaching and supervision skills. A UK Driving Licence and access to a vehicle for work purposes will be required for this post; and the post holder will be required to work across sites within Gateshead NHS Trust to meet various service demands.
Main Duties of the Job
 * Take the lead role in the clinical delivery and leadership of the aligned Occupational Therapy service.
 * Manage a clinical caseload undertaking advanced assessment and appropriate treatment, dealing with clinically complex cases.
 * Work as a key member of the MDT and act in accordance with best practice standards.
 * Lead in service development based on data and evolving national and local guidance.
 * Lead in supervision, support, teaching and appraisal of Occupational Therapy staff and students, within the specialty.
Job Responsibilities
 * Delivery of the specialty Occupational Therapy Service – service review, development and alignment to national best practice standards.
 * Be professionally responsible and accountable for all aspects of your own work including the management of patients in your care.
 * Ensure a high standard of clinical care for the patients under your management and support more junior staff to do likewise on a daily basis.
 * Provide supervision to qualified staff, non‑qualified staff and students as required.
 * Provide a key focus for therapeutic clinical expertise, high quality advice and support to the multi‑disciplinary team.
 * Collect data and provide key communication between key stakeholders.
Essential Qualifications
 * OT Degree and HCPC registration.
 * Masters Level study or equivalent.
Essential Experience
 * Extensive post‑registration experience in the relevant field to the advertised specialism.
 * Expert knowledge in assessment, treatment and management of complex patients, demonstrating clinical reasoning skills.
 * Advanced manual handling/risk assessment skills, application of policy and procedures.
 * Evidence‑based practice (EBP) and service development.
 * Interpersonal and communication skills.
 * Team working and OT advocacy.
Desirable Qualifications
 * NHS experience linked to area of expertise.

 * Pay Band: £47,810 to £54,710 per annum.
 * Contract: Permanent.
 * Working Pattern: Full‑time.
