About the Role
We are recruiting a Skilled Machinist to join a specialist Machine Shop within a small, well‑equipped workshop environment. This role focuses on producing one‑off and small‑batch prototype components, supporting new product development, prototype builds, and continuous testing activities.
You’ll work closely with Application Engineers, Test teams, and multiple internal departments, ensuring the smooth running of development projects by delivering high‑quality, precision‑machined parts.
This position is ideal for someone who enjoys working independently, thrives in a hands‑on engineering setting, and has strong CNC programming and machining skills.
Key Responsibilities
Machine prototype components to support ongoing development and test activities
Work closely with Application Engineers to confirm machining requirements
Plan machining processes and write CNC programs from scratch
Set and operate CNC and manual machinery to produce parts to exact specification
Use precision measurement tools to inspect and verify finished components
Order materials and tooling required for machining tasks
Provide support to Test, Prototype Build, Production, Maintenance, and Quality teams when required
Repair fixtures, make tooling, and section components for analysis
Maintain excellent workshop housekeeping and adhere to engineering best practice
Work independently and efficiently to meet project timelines

Haas Lathe SL30
Colchester VMC (3‑Axis) with Fanuc control + 4th‑axis add‑on
Colchester semi‑automatic lathe (CNC or manual operation)
Small mill drill
Pillar drill
Chop saw
Off‑hand grinder
Gcoder 2D CAD software
What We’re Looking For
Time‑served engineering apprenticeship (or equivalent experience)
Strong experience in both turning and milling
Essential CNC programming experience
Ability to read and work accurately from engineering drawings
Confident using precision measuring equipment
Able to plan machining jobs and work independently
Organised, proactive, and able to support multiple departments
