Overview
UKAEA is leading the drive to put fusion energy on the grid, to give the world a new form of long–term, sustainable low–carbon electricity. At their sites at Culham, Oxfordshire and Rotherham, South Yorkshire, they have a rapidly growing workforce to fulfil their expanding programme of research, focused on delivering the UK's first fusion prototype power plant by 2040.
We have a current opportunity for an Electrical Design Engineer on a contract basis. The position will be based in Abingdon. For further information about this position please apply.
Responsibilities
* Provide Electrical Engineering Design capability to UKAEA programmes. Responsible for the design and specification of electrical systems and the supporting technical documentation including CAD deliverables.
* Work within a multi–disciplinary engineering team to design complex electrical systems using a database–driven CAD application.
* Design electrical systems for automated control, robotics, LV distribution, motion control and PLCs.
* Perform calculations for circuit protection, cable sizing and load estimation.
* Create detail drawings and diagrams to UKAEA & International standard.
* Select appropriate components for electrical systems.
* Manage database libraries to ensure component details are correct.
* Supported by the configuration team, ensure all technical information is correctly configured.
* Regular and proactive communication with the engineering team to progress designs and resolve issues.
* Perform formal checks on other designer's work.
* Produce presentation material for design reviews, present as required.
* Follow UKAEA procedures, processes, and protocols.
* Manage time to achieve project deadlines.
* Co–ordinate Electrical Design tasks in line with project priorities and deadlines.
* Provide input to project plans to maintain delivery targets.
Qualifications
Essential
* Minimum HNC or equivalent in Electrical Engineering.
* Experience using either SolidWorks Electrical, EPLAN, AutoCAD Electrical or other database–driven CAD systems.
* Experience working to international standards and legislation including BS EN 60204 and BS 7671.
* Good knowledge of Design for Manufacture.
* Competent user of Microsoft Office.
* Fluent in written and spoken English language.
Desirable
* Familiar with SmarTeam PDM system or equivalent.
* Experience of Automation, Process Plant or Robotics.
* Understanding of Functional Safety as relevant to complex industrial systems.
* BS th Edition Wiring Regulations certified.
Experience
* Experience using database–driven ECAD software to design technically complex electrical systems, preferably within a multidisciplinary team.
* An understanding of design for vacuum, remote handling, cryogenics, and material selection for fusion applications is considered an advantage.
