Location: Ixworth, IP31 2HS
Salary: A GBP 25,584 - GBP 30,060 per annum
Hours: 37 hours per week, 5 days a week (alternative hours and patterns would be considered)
The Education Trust is an expanding multi-academy trust with both primary and secondary schools. The Trust currently has 22 schools (13 primary and 9 secondary).
The Role
The Finance Officer is responsible for maintaining the schools' finance system and records in accordance with the Trust's Financial Rules and Procedures. They ensure that transactional finance is delivered efficiently and effectively to meet school needs. Staff may oversee more than one school, subject to change based on the Trust's evolving needs.
The post holder will have access to and be responsible for confidential information and documentation. They must handle sensitive material appropriately and accurately.
The post holder will participate in the Trust's Performance Management and Continuing Professional Development programs and must comply with the Trust's Code of Conduct for Staff and Volunteers.
Key Responsibilities
* Act as the primary point of contact for all finance queries for relevant school(s);
* Process school orders ensuring compliance with the Trust's Financial Rules and Procedures;
* Process invoices received ensuring correct authorization of expenditure;
* Produce payment files and reconcile them with outstanding invoices;
* Reconcile supplier statements with accounting records, including leading on one or more Trust-wide supplier accounts as account champion;
* Reconcile school bank accounts, credit cards, and petty cash;
* Raise relevant school sales invoices;
* Manage the schools' online payment system (e.g., ParentPay or Wisepay);
* Chase outstanding invoices with customers and escalate to the Trust's credit control team where appropriate;
* Assist budget holders in effectively costing and managing school-related funds (e.g., trips, lettings, buses, productions);
* Record fund recharges (e.g., Pupil Premium Grant) once authorized by appropriate budget holders;
* Provide support and ad hoc training to non-finance staff within the school on financial matters and the use of Sage;
* Ensure budget holders regularly review budget statements; and
* Assist internal and external auditors with any information requests related to the schools' financial records.
Skills and Qualifications
The professional competencies expected of the Finance Officer are:
* Be a flexible and enthusiastic team player who is adaptable and resilient in managing and executing daily responsibilities;
* Have good communication skills, both in person and in writing, to respond to staff, students, and outside agencies while maintaining confidentiality;
* Be organized and able to manage, plan, and complete daily and weekly tasks in a busy office environment; and
* Be familiar with or willing to learn to use various IT systems, including Sage Intacct.
The qualifications and experience required include:
* Experience working in a busy finance environment;
* Previous purchase/sales ledger experience;
* Maths and English GCSEs grade 4-9;
* AAT qualification or current study towards it (desirable).
