Clinical Practice Educator

This is an internal only vacancy for staff employed at Bridgewater Community Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust and Warrington and Halton Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

Topromote high quality patient / client care by leading on staff clinical skills development and provide assurance of a clinically competent workforce. The postholder would be required to work within the clinical area to maintain clinical credibility in area of clinical practice and support the implementation and embedding of national guidance / evidence-based practice by leading the development of clinical guidelines / polices and supports the quality improvement agenda including research and clinical audit.

The Clinical Practice Educator is accountable to and supports the Clinical Lead in the delivery of safe, effective and high-quality services by promoting excellence in clinical practice, strengthening care quality standards and leading education and professional development initiatives across teams.


Main duties of the job

To make an effective contribution to the Trusts vision, strategic objectives and key work programmes.

To provide visible, credible professional leadership within the clinical area

To foster an effective working relationship with staff and key stakeholders to ensure a holistic approach to care, improve outcomes and reduce inequalities

Assists in the implementation of evidenced based practice through the development of clinical skills.

Coordinate delivery of the preceptorship programme for newly registered clinicians, working closely with Practice Education Facilitators for pre-registration students.

Support practice assessors / supervisors for post registration students

Support development and delivery of clinical skills training.

Participate in the design and implementation and evaluation of current/new programmes of education/training.

Work collaboratively with education colleagues to support clinical education and training across the community, is embedded within clinical practice.

Job responsibilities

Bridgewater Community Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust and Warrington and Halton Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust plan to integrate and form a new organisation on the 1st April 2026. As such, if your start date is on or after 1st April 2026, you will be employed by the newly formed organisation. Should you join Bridgewater prior to this date, your employment will automatically transfer into the new organisation. To promote high quality patient / client care by leading on staff clinical skills development and provide assurance of a clinically competent workforce. The post holder would be required to work within the clinical area to maintain clinical credibility in area of clinical practice and support the implementation and embedding of national guidance / evidence based practice by leading the development of clinical guidelines / polices and supports the quality improvement agenda including research and clinical audit. The post holder will be a key member of the borough leadership team working in partnership with team leaders/ coordinators to identify staff clinical skills requirements, development of clinical competencies and assessment tools. Similarly work in collaboration with the education and development team to identify / deliver training programmes to meet clinical skills requirements. The post holder will support practice assessors / supervisors for post registration students and coordinate preceptorship in the borough.


Duties and Responsibilities:

* Challenges poor practice
* Develop a forum for Specialist Practitioner Qualification Practice Assessors and Supervisors to support effective mentorship of post registration students to standardise delivery, share good practice and agree outcome measures.
* Produce annual or other reports as required to evaluate the effectiveness of work programmes and activities undertaken to inform training and workforce requirements.
* Develop positive collaborate relationships with Higher Education Institution providers regarding training requirements in conjunction with the EPD team.
* Act as an advocate and champion for patient care in a variety of forums and professional groups and challenge attitude and behaviour


Clinical/Professional

The post holder would be required to work within the clinical area on a regular basis to maintain credibility in area of clinical practice

* To provide clinical leadership and expertise in clinical field.
* To provide academic support and supervisory expertise underpinned by theoretical knowledge, skill and practical experience.
* To facilitate the development and implementation of innovative practice in line with current evidence and research based practice
* To provide a positive role model for nurses and students, maintaining a strong visible clinical presence.
* Ensure documentation is of a high standard, whilst providing continuity of care and is in accordance with professional standards of record keeping.
* To ensure that clinicians practice direct patient care in accordance with professional codes, promoting high standards of patient care by the development of relevant policies/guidelines and competency frameworks in line with evidence based practice
* Ensure clinical governance processes are in place, including accountability and safety
* To support a responsive approach to implementation of practice changes in response to identified risks and dissemination of learning from incidents and complaints, participating in complaint responses or clinical investigations where appropriate.
* Work as a team member, ensuring good communication and collaborative working relationships are maintained throughout the borough
* To be responsible for own professional conduct and maintain own professional development.
* To be proactive within local regional and national forums
* To provide relevant evidence-based information to clinicians to assist them to lead and to help individuals make informed choices about their own and their families health.

Person Specification


Experience

* Working knowledge of Community Healthcare
* Experience of working within specialist area
* Good knowledge base of current legislation and national plans which impact on Community Care
* Evidence of delivering teaching programmes to staff groups.
* Demonstrate the ability to work in highly demanding environment.
* Implementation of audit/research recommendations
* Evidence of involvement in change management
* Experience of supporting learners in a clinical setting

Qualifications

* Registered Nurse with current NMC registration
