Description Landing Craft Advisor and Trials Manager Programme Name: Maritime Location: Farnborough and UK Mobile, with flexibility to work from home dependent on business demands The Role: We are seeking a Landing Craft (LC) Advisor in support of our Maritime Autonomy Campaign. The role will focus on advising on the development of several in-train and predicted UK Commando Force (UKCF) and Royal Navy Landing Craft and UxV programmes (value £1B), with additional significant Export potential (£1B). As a valued contributor to a highly-skilled diverse team, the Leidos LC Advisor will inform, influence, develop and oversee elements of design, operational concepts, build, marine engineering, advanced technologies (including AI, Comms, ISR and weaponry), multinational interoperability, forward-deployed maintainability and human factors to make these products outstanding - global leaders, fit for the RN/UKCF in the 21st Century. The role will require engagement with Programme Management, Naval Architects, Boat Builders, Boat Outfitters, Systems Integrators, maintainers and the User community (MOD, RN, UKCF, MAB and overseas). Overall, they will be expected to contribute to the collective outputs of the business development, programme management and engineering teams ensuring Leidos LC/UxV products are the ideal customer fit. In addition, this role will perform the duties of a Trials Manager, defining, overseeing and conducting at sea trials in a safe manner consistent with the safety processes and procedures as appropriate. Duties and Responsibilities: Boat Design : Advise and contribute to LC and UxV design, incorporating a considerable depth of experience in operating LC in the maritime environment. Customer awareness will be critical in ensuring product imagined by Naval Architects and technologists is fit for the customer, fit to fight. The LC Advisor’s subject matter expertise will be a key resource when considering trade-offs across KURs including speed, range, seakeeping, payload, functionality, interoperability, weapons, protection/armour, stealth, navigation, ISR, etc. Technology Design : In addition to cutting-edge naval architecture, Leidos products will be offered complete (and with spiral development pathways) with the most advanced technologies to increase autonomy, protection, offensive strike and more. The LC Advisor will be expected to know/learn how the outputs of these systems can contribute to the overall capability, e.g. AI interfaces, automated warnings, networked weaponry, advanced communications. Operational Concepts : The role requires the candidate to have a deep understanding of UKCF and RN amphibious CONOPS, the practical use of LC at small scale to across large formations, i.e., Strike Team to Littoral Strike Group-level. Boat Building : In partnership with other members of the team, including the Leidos Programme Manager and Naval Architects, will contribute to ensuring the supply chain build Leidos product to the highest standards achieving/exceeding KURS, to price and schedule. Boat Outfitting : In partnership with other members of the team, including Leidos Programme Manager and Naval Architects, will contribute to ensuring the supply chain build Leidos product to the highest standards achieving/exceeding KURS, to price and schedule. Systems Integration: Will contribute to the development of boat/UxV tech stack design and systems integration, advising the technology team on priorities and useability by the Customer in the field. Trials, Experimentation & Accreditation: Will contribute to the design and support the conduct of vessel acceptance trials – on land, in harbour and at sea. Likely including collaboration with the Customer, including the Defence Maritime Regulator (DMR) and Amphibious Trials and Training Unit Royal Marines (ATTURM). Operations & Maintenance (O&M): Will contribute to the development and creation of robust O&M capabilities for Leidos product, building on their knowledge of 1st, 2nd and 3rd Line LC maintenance factors. Human Factors: Will advise on UKCF Human Factors design and instrumentation requirements and data collection (eg via IoT) - shock, vibration, noise, air quality, etc. User Experience (UX)/User Interface (UI): Will work closely with the design team to ensure Leidos LC/UxV product are the most advanced in the sector, tailored to the Customer’s every need, before they realise it themselves. Competitive Analysis : Contribute to assessing competitors’ offerings. Customer Engagement : Will work with the Customer to test capability options, refine Requirements and trade-offs. Trials Manager : Will lead the conduct of the trials activities, writing the trials strategy, planning the various as sea trials, working with our strategic partners to deliver safe and successful trials providing evidence in support of acceptance of the platform. Skills Required: Royal Marines Landing Craft Operator – RM Officer, Warrant Officer or SNCO with deep and broad experience of operating all forms of Royal Marines LC, notably LCU, LCVP, CRC and IRC. RM LC interoperability with RN shipping and internationally, e.g., USN, RNLN, RAN. Must demonstrate deep understanding of both the operational context and use, and the detailed running and maintenance of LC in the harshest of environments – how they work, what they need, what works well, etc. Driving improvements in all areas across designs the Customer will value. Essential. Skills Desired: MAB Landing Craft – RM LC Officer, Warrant Officer or SNCO with experience of operating all forms of MAB LC, as above. Desirable. DE&S/MOD LC Acquisition – Knowledge of the MOD LC Acquisition system, DEFSTANS, STANAGS, Regulations, H&S. Desirable. Tech and Systems Integration – Understanding of complex defence systems, AI, UKCF EvE, RN StrikeNet, radar, Combat Management Systems (CMS), Autonomy, cyber resilience, use of UxV at sea and Electronic Warfare.
