We are an innovative and caring, teaching andtraining PMS practice aiming to provide high quality care for an inner cityarea which has a vibrant and markedly diverse population, facing many of theexciting challenges and interests associated with health issues related to poverty,migrant health, multi-morbidity and varying culture and ethnicity. You will have the opportunity to work with the homeless service in Birmingham. We are looking for a permanent 6 session salariedGP to join our team and to bring with them a good team spirit and willingnessto contribute to the delivery of care.
Main duties of the job
* The post-holder will be expected to undertakeall the normal duties and responsibilities associated with a GP workingwithin primary care.
* In accordance with the rota, the post-holderwill make him/her-self available to undertake a variety of dutiesincluding consultations and emergencies, telephone consultations andqueries, triaging, visiting patients at home, checking and signing repeatprescriptions and dealing with queries, patient test results, patient,referral letters NHS/private, paperwork and correspondence in a timelymanner;
* Making professional, autonomous decisions inrelation to presenting problems, whether self-referred or referred fromother health care workers within the organisation;
* Recording clear and contemporaneous IT basedconsultation notes;
* Compiling and issuing computer-generated acuteand repeat prescriptions (avoiding hand-written prescriptions wheneverpossible);
* Prescribing in accordance with locally agreedor national guidelines.
About us
The practice has been inthe Cape Hill area of Smethwick for over 50 years. It has grown into a GPpartnership and developed to become one of the most comprehensive primaryhealth care organisations in greater Birmingham. The practice moved to apurpose-built health centre in 2001 which was further extended to accommodatethe growing team. We are part of the Birmingham Cross City ClinicalCommissioning Group. The practice has approximately 12,100 patients with a teamof 6 partners, 4 part time salaried GPs, nursing team with ANPs, NPs, PNs andHCAs, link worker and chaplain, an administrative team and IT support. We arean innovative and caring teaching practice which is very in tune with the localneeds and responsive to its needs. Holistic care is an important part of thepractices ethos, we have link workers who care for the social aspects ofpatients lives, and a chaplain who see patients of all faiths and no faith tohelp with their spiritual and cultural needs through crises.
Job responsibilities
Clinicalresponsibilities:
Inaccordance with the practice timetable, as agreed, the post-holder will makehim/her-self available to undertake a variety of duties including surgeryconsultations and emergencies, telephone consultations and queries, triaging,visiting patients at home, checking and signing repeat prescriptions anddealing with queries, patient test results, patient, referral lettersNHS/private, paperwork and correspondence in a timely manner;
Makingprofessional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whetherself-referred or referred from other health care workers within theorganisation;

Collectingdata for audit purposes;

Ingeneral the post-holder will be expected to undertake all the normal duties andresponsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care.

Meetall tight timescales/deadlines for audits and written returns to ensure thatthe Practice meets quality standards and receives the designated funding (e.g.Quarterly Enhanced Services returns, annual QOF audit etc.)

Person Specification
Qualifications
* A vocationally trained and accredited GP.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
* Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
* Understanding of the pressures faced by GPs and healthcare teams.
* Willingness to contribute to and participate in a peer support group.
* Current registration with the GMC and has membership with a recognised medical defence organisation;
* Strong levels of IT proficiency and familiarity with primary care clinical systems (the Practice uses EMIS Web). Some experience in using the Microsoft suite of programmes;
* Proven ability to offer support within a clinical team and share learning points in Practice meetings;
* An understanding of PMS contracting requirements and the operation of the Quality Outcomes Framework process(QOF);
* Experience and an interest in a specific disease area.
* An interest in a particular disease area and the willingness to take a leadership role in it.
Experience
* A good knowledge of and interest in general practice and primary care.
* Initiative, creativity and motivation.
* A collegial team spirit and feel comfortable in a strongly multidisciplinary team environment.
* Able to take a consultative approach to their work, appropriately involving relevant people.
* A good working knowledge of and interest in national primary care strategies and ideas on how to implement these for the development of the Practice.
