About The Role

This post is designed for an individual who has a specific interest in burns management or a general interest in plastic surgery and wishes to be part of the burns on‑call rota, rather than the general acute plastic surgery rota. Speciality development in line with the unit’s needs will be encouraged. The position is offered on a full‑time (10 PA) basis, although less than full‑time applications will be considered. Duties will be based at Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust.


Main Duties

* Day‑case elective theatre lists will take place at the Pinderfields and Dewsbury sites.
* In‑patient and burns/trauma operating will be carried out at the Pinderfields site.
* Burns on‑call duties are shared between six colleagues.
* On‑call rota: 1 in 6 weekdays and weekends (to coincide with weekend PA activity).
* Consultant will participate in “Consultant of the Week” covering general trauma once every 11 weeks.
* Consultant will participate in “Consultant of the Day” covering burns acute once every 6 weekdays and once every 6 weekends, responsible for post‑operative care and new burns referrals.
* Supporting professional activities in accordance with the Trust Framework, including at least 1.5 SPA in the core 10‑PA timetable; additional SPA or DCC time may be commissioned based on the successful candidate’s skills.
* Examples of additional responsibilities may include formal teaching duties or departmental leadership roles.
* Dedicated office space is provided at Pinderfields, with IT facilities available at peripheral sites.
* Administrative support is available through the Plastic Surgery departmental secretaries.
* Cross‑site working may be required on a given working day; any future job plan changes that require cross‑site work will include allocated travel time.

Essential Person Specification

* Full GMC Registration with licence to practise.
* Inclusion on the GMC Specialist Register for Plastics or within 6 months of obtaining CCT (or CESR/equivalent) by date of interview.
* Medical Degree from a recognised medical school.
* FRCS (Plast) or equivalent.
* Sufficient senior‑level experience to be placed on the Specialist Register.
* Computer literate.
* Fully accredited by the college and acceptable to a college representative.
* Evidence of extensive training and experience in burn surgery.
* Ability to deliver service independently without direct supervision.
* Flexibility to work within a team environment.
* Eligibility to work in the UK.
* Demonstrates an intelligent and analytical approach to problem solving.
* Good time‑management skills.
* Ability to contribute to the development of the department, the Trust, and its services.
* Effective communication skills with staff and patients.
* Caring and compassionate nature.
* Flexible and adaptable.
* Good team player.
* Willingness to learn and adhere to all internal systems, processes, and local policies.
* Physically capable of carrying out the duties as specified in the job description and able to evidence competencies.
* Holds a valid driving licence.
* Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) clearance.
