<div><h3>Job Description</h3><p>The Environment Agency’s Water Industry Enforcement Team, part of the wider Enforcement and Prosecution team within Legal and Audit Services, is looking for a junior lawyer to undertake maternity leave cover for 12 months in the Peterborough team.</p><h3>Responsibilities</h3><ul><li>Conduct criminal proceedings and advise on all matters related to the enforcement of environmental requirements.</li><li>Advise on the imposition of civil sanctions such as enforcement undertakings and variable monetary penalties.</li><li>Provide training to staff on disclosure requirements and the use of statutory and enforcement powers.</li><li>Own a diverse caseload and support the organisation’s commitment to improving the performance of the Water Industry.</li><li>Collaborate with senior colleagues and be supervised in a supportive network.</li></ul><h3>Qualifications and Experience</h3><ul><li>Qualified lawyer with right to practice in England and Wales.</li><li>0–3 years PQE, recently qualified or transitioning from another area of law with criminal litigation experience.</li><li>Experience as a prosecutor or defence lawyer, or interest in environmental legislation or criminal and regulatory law.</li><li>Strong oral and written communication, clear explanation of legal matters, and ability to influence stakeholders.</li><li>Proactive, detail‑oriented with good analytical skills.</li><li>Curiosity and teamwork orientation.</li></ul><h3>Professional Membership</h3><p>Current practising certificate is required.</p><h3>Working Conditions</h3><p>Flexible working arrangements, including home working and job share, are supported.
