Job Summary
The Employee Relations Lead will play a crucial role in fostering a positive work environment within our unionised manufacturing facility. This position involves managing employee relations, addressing grievances, and ensuring compliance with UK labour laws and union agreements. The ideal candidate will have strong interpersonal skills, a deep understanding of UK labour relations, and the ability to navigate complex workplace dynamics.
The role will be key to also driving attendance, making sure managers and HR Advisors are equipped to handle absence for all reasons and implementing strategies to improve our sickness absence metrics.
Key Responsibilities
* Management: Leading a team of HR Advisors providing mentoring and coaching where required.
* Employee Relations: Serve as the primary point of contact for employee relations issues, including conflict resolution, grievance handling, and disciplinary actions.
* Union Liaison: Work closely with union representatives to maintain a collaborative relationship and address union-related employee relation concerns.
* Policy Implementation: Ensure company policies and procedures are consistently applied and comply with UK labour laws and union agreements.
* Training and Development: Conduct training sessions for managers and employees on labour relations, conflict resolution, and company policies.
* Investigations: Lead investigations into employee complaints and workplace incidents, ensuring thorough documentation and fair resolution.
* Reporting: Prepare reports on employee relations activities, trends, and outcomes for senior management.
Qualifications
* Education: Ideally CIPD Level5 or above.
* Experience: Demonstrable experience in delivering employee relations in a unionised manufacturing environment. Experience managing or leading a team.
* Skills: Strong interpersonal and communication skills, mediation, conflict resolution, negotiation, and problem-solving abilities.
* Knowledge: In-depth understanding of UK labour laws, union agreements, and best practices in employee relations.
* Strong understanding of human resources principles and practices
* Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
* Proficiency in HRIS systems, particularly Workday and PeopleSoft
* Experience with data entry and managing ATS platforms like Taleo
* Familiarity with Salesforce and social media management
* Administrative experience in a fast-paced environment
