Description POSITION OBJECTIVES Under immediate direction and in accordance with Department of Health contract obligations, assists the Aboriginal Environmental Health Unit in achieving a high standard of environmental health in Aboriginal Communities throughout the Shire of Derby/West Kimberley (Shire). Including: providing advice and assistance to Aboriginal Communities on matters relating to Environmental Health, and dog health and control; assisting in supporting the effective work performance of community based Environmental Health Workers, and regularly undertaking site visits to accessible Aboriginal Communities in relation to matters of Environmental Health. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES OUTCOME: Customer Service Develop professional relationships with all customers, internal and external. Treat all customers with professionalism and dignity. Develop and maintain a sense of loyalty and team ownership between members of the Unit. Promptly attend to customer enquiries in a courteous and effective manner. Take initiative to attend to existing or potential customer needs. OUTCOME: Workplace Health and Safety Ensure that all hazards and incidents/accidents are properly and promptly reported. Operate plant, equipment, appropriate devices and protective equipment in accordance with demonstrated safety procedures and proper instruction. Comply, as far as is reasonable, with safety and health instructions. OUTCOME: Compliance Assist in clinical referrals for general health issues related to Environmental Health. Assist in routine visits to Aboriginal Communities. Assist in achieving the objectives of the unit. Ensure compliance with relevant policies, procedures, and legislation, including local government recordkeeping and privacy obligations. Appropriately record and store documentation in line with the organisation’s record management procedures. Follow procurement guidelines when carrying out purchasing activities. Adhere to the Shire’s Code of Conduct. OUTCOME: Administration Assist with the documentation and reporting on team activities. Assist in the preparation of half yearly reports on activities in relation to Aboriginal Communities in accordance with the funding requirements of the unit. Maintain appropriate and accurate records in all relevant matters within the Shire. Represent Council at conferences and other meetings if required. OUTCOME: Service Delivery Assist in liaising on site with Aboriginal Communities and groups and their leaders and administrative structures, relevant government agencies and other relevant bodies regarding problems and initiatives on improving the health and wellbeing of Aboriginal people. This includes the Aboriginal Environmental Health Directorate at the WA Department of Health. Operate according to the Cultural values and protocols of each community, representing best service practice in Aboriginal Environmental Health. Assist in the delivery of Environmental Health Education and Health Promotion packages for schools and Aboriginal Communities including presentations. regularly undertake site visits to accessible Aboriginal Communities to assist the unit in the delivery of environmental health programs and activities such as: Dog Health and Breeding Control Program Healthy Home Assessments. Clinical Referral Program Effective mosquito / pest control program Sentinel Chicken Program – (blood sampling from chickens to test for mosquito borne viruses) This position description is not an exhaustive list of duties of the position. The Employee will be required to undertake other duties as directed by the Team Leader Aboriginal Environmental Health having regard to the incumbents’ skills and experience and in accordance with the level expectations of the Enterprise Agreement and related policies. Skills And Experiences ESSENTIAL Sound verbal and written communication skills; Ability to deliver engaging and interactive presentations to children and adult audiences in Aboriginal Communities; Basic interpersonal skills; ability to work within a team environment; and ability to organise work and meet deadlines; Some knowledge of environmental health issues of importance to Aboriginal people and/or the people of communities; Some understanding of local Aboriginal culture; The following essential criteria will be assessed during the selection process. Basic computer and keyboard literacy; Basic knowledge of relevant Safety and Health legislation; Current Class C Manual Drivers Licence; Ability to acquire a working with children check and suitable national police clearance to be maintained throughout employment; Commitment to ongoing personal and professional development.
